I want first gen support just as much as you do. Hell, I own two of them.

I think Pelfreybilt was one of those armor companies that were planning to do first gen armor, I believe they found a prototype one during the liquidation. They just never went through with it (among other issues, obviously)

Ya... I wasn't going to argue the production numbers, because admittedly many 1st Gens are now out of service from one reason or another.

But the production number arguement is a lie that gets perpetuated in these forums quite frequently. The most recent numbers are spiking significantly, but overall they have always been pretty steady.

I was pretty surprised when I pulled up those stats, I wasn't expecting the sales numbers to be pretty much constant since 1995. It spiked 47,000 from 2017 to 2018 which is impressive.

The cost of engineering and tooling is very expensive, if a product sells in limited numbers it just isnt cost effective for a business to take up space in their shop producing something that cant be sold for a reasonable price. Most of the folks driving old vehicles drive them because they cant afford to buy newer, if thats not you and you just love first gens then unfortunately your in for a lack of plug and play parts or a lot of very expensive custom fabrication. Good luck with your build.

    Lmao! Cost of engineering? Tooling?

Let's take skid plates for example. Other than dimensions, they are essentially the same damn thing for every Generation of Tacoma.

If 2 rednecks can make a skid trillogy for a 1st Gen Tacoma using some cardboard, a tape measure, an angle grinder, and a 120v welder... a shop can put together the specs and build them easier and more efficiently.

Waterjets cut a whole entire assortment of parts out of a sheet of metal all the time in shops... They can cut shock tabs, gussets, panels for 4 link mounts, bottle openers, key chains, etc on the same run.

And "very expensive custom fabrication".... well that depends, if you have right tools, the cost involved is only material and the time it takes to fabricate it. It's exponentially cheaper than paying some of the prices that are being charged.

You say most people drive older vehicles because they can't afford new ones... well that comment re-inforces my thought that most people that drive 3rd Gens are pretentious dicks who comment in threads that have nothing to do with them. BTW... MANY 1st genner have a 1st gen as a trail rig, camping truck etc... and actually drive newer vehicles for their daily... GASP... I know it's a shocker that not all 1st genners are broke college kids.

Speaking of builds... what the heck have you even done to your truck? From the looks of it, you've slapped a lift on it... probably paid a shop to do it because you didn't know how.

Let me guess,,hmmm,, your the redneck with a grinder?? Im not going to argue business with someone that obviously doesnt know much about it. Production costs go far beyond the cost of material my friend. It does not make any good business sense to go into limited production on products that dont sell. As far as my truck is concerned, thats my toy and i enjoy it like you enjoy yours so keep your personal shots to yourself, or I have a better idea,, grow the fuck up.

i think Toyota NEEDs to consider start making certain interior parts that maybe aged, weathered, broken (accidental or otherwise), such as bezels, steering wheels, consoles, plastic trim, etc and other parts (mechanical possibly) hard to find new OEM, I am sure that the corporate database has the list of who bot their trucks new and still have them trying to keep as such

i need a new part (nearing desperation point :() to keep my ride safe & enjoyable and just cannot locate good parts, I would like to keep my Toyota a Toyota as the saying goes

I don't know about you, but I don't own a first gen Tacoma so I can play with the popular kids.

I bought my truck before Toyota decided to try and overtake GM as the world's largest manufacturer, and I'm glad I did.

Toyota was successful... at making more trucks. although with that quantity comes lesser quality, IMO.

Nah, the real answer is that he makes a good enough living on 2nd gen stuff, and doesn't feel a need to expand. So for HIM, the market isn't there, that doesn't mean that there aren't people who wouldn't be lining up to buy them if they were made avaialble.

That said, I'd still much rather MAKE my skid plates for $100, then spend $700 on someone else's design.

Given how much good condition 1st gens go for these days, that's not quite true. I see threads crop up every few weeks where 2nd genners try to make fun of how much people are paying for 1st gens. Seems like most of them are just jealous that 1st gens hold their value better, lol.

The people who can't afford to "buy newer" don't go out and buy a 20 year old truck for $13k. They'd go buy a 10 year old 2nd gen for $10k, or even better, they'd but some clapped out 10 year old domestic truck for $2k.

that is the truth, my nephew just turned 18 and wants a truck like his uncle has lol, but has limited funds and just graduated HS.
I told him, you can find an old detroit truck that is less than half resale value but may have to go to TX or CA to find one whose body panels are still in ok condition for what funds you have to spend at the moment, a local one may pop up here but who knows, they seem to get snatched up real quick

    Like, so many.
My guy, you seem very angry with folks who own 3rd gens. By the time I could afford a Tacoma, that's the gen they were on. I think that's the case for most people. We're all into trucks, man.

    Is it though?

Bumpers; trail gear, CBI, brute force, relentless, ARB, All Pro, rock defense, etc...
skids: budbuilt, 4xInnovations, skidrow, coastal off-road, etc...
sliders: 4xInnovations, white-knuckle, demello, all -pro,
racks: All-pro, voodoo, RCI, myriad of universal fit ones...

It seems to me that people just google "tacoma broverlander accessories" and get frustrated when the first several results are shops that sell 2nd/3rd gen stuff.

Nope... Not angry at all 3rd Genners.

Just pricks that have the attitude that driving a 1st Gen means we can't afford something else. Some of my good friends are 3rd genners.

    20190705_164653.jpg

I lifted every one of the above 3rd Gens... also, installed skids, sliders, bumpers on some of them. And wheel regularly with them. The 2nd Grey one is one of my closest wheeling buddies and has helped me with a lot of the fab on my truck.

you lucky you are, being located in CA
here where I am smack dab in the middle of the USA there is basically zilch for other like-minded tacoma people unless I drive 100s and 100s of miles away!
