The gist im getting is--yes its possible so if you can get an SR5 for a crazy deal and want a project its worth it.

Im probably just going to wind up finding something with an already installed TRD e-locker. I have to factor my time into the equation and the amount id have to save by DIYing would have to be considerable

I'd say get the best truck you can find for the money. You're gonna mod it either way. I know this is true because you're already afflicted with locking differentials on the brain.

Thanks for your input on the Harrop E-locker.

I'm assuming that you had this installed in the front & rear differentials on your truck? I have a 1999 4x4, non E-locker, and would like to have the rear E-locker installed on my rear axle.

First I ordered a complete rear diff with e-locker from ECGS. That was last year. It’s pretty simple to just install the new 3rd member they already set up and just mail them your core when you’re done.

Then about a month ago I got a screamin’ deal on a set of 4:88 gears. Perfect time to throw in a front e-locker, since I was ripping my diffs apart anyway. This time I decided to do the work myself. But I have 2 vehicles now so it’s been no problem to leave my Tacoma on jack stands in the garage for a few weeks while I pick away at re-gearing the diffs and some other mods.

If you don’t have another vehicle, I’d strongly urge you to get a pre-assembled 3rd member. I’ve had multiple minor issues, like running out of gear paint, messing up a pinion seal, needing more shims, etc. It’s no biggie because I have a garage and another car.

You can buy elocker actuator from RockAuto.

It's also probably an easy fix if it's not rusted. Mine just needed the copper contacts cleaned and more grease on a ball bearing at the bottom of the worm gear.

I'm excited. I just got my truck back together and drivable late last night after 3 weeks on jack stands in the garage.

I was able to find a complete rear end from a TRD with a working locker, the 4wd control, RR diff lock button, and all the wiring for $400 from a local guy. I'll hopefully be putting it in my SR5 in the coming months as soon as it cools down.

That’s a score. Does the gear ratio match your front differential?

Yup...unless either or our trucks was regeared, which I doubt.

Yeah, that's definitely a good deal, but that low of a price would also make me somewhat suspicious. I'd want to tear into that axle and do a detailed inspection.

Since I'm a total goober when it comes to axles, I'd have to have to pay some one to do it, lol.

^^Id be on it if the 95' SR5 I was looking at wasnt such a trash fire.

I ended up with a TRD with a locker installed so this was all just exercising my imagination.

Would you be so kind as to PM some details about your truck, ie lift components, wheel and tire size. It looks great!
