Annoying part is trying to find replacement bolts in Canada.. 0/4 for 'fastener shops' and 'bolt supply shops'. Amazon not much better up here

If you know what sizes and thread pitch, you could try other options. I'm not sure how shipping would fair but you could always try these to name a few:

I was going to leave my rack, unpainted in the bare alum finish.

    Now I'm having second thoughts.....

Check out the Prinsu page in the vendor section. There is a thread with links on where to find replacement stainless steel HW with black oxide finish.

Unfortunately, stainless steel bolts does not solve the corrosion shown. The aluminum is the sacrificial metal in the galvanic reaction between the dissimilar metals so the aluminum will still corrode when moisture is present. Threadlock or anti-seize or RTV on threads helps by keeping moisture out of the threads .

this is truth...google aluminum contact with stainless steel - i've experienced this first hand with architectural details in a coastal environment

why wouldn't stainless steel be a good choice? it resists everything. I live in hawai'i where its 90% humidity or more non stop coupled with salt air. stainless steel holds up well. whatever you use, op...dont go cheap. cheap coatings break up with contact because of how thin they are. buy quality fasteners.

Basically Stainless is great by itself but when mixed with aluminum, the aluminum corrodes faster. Cadmium and Aluminum are both anodes so there is almost no chance of galvanic corrosion. Aluminum bolts(which they do have) would be even better but the shear strength may not be ideal. That is why they make cadmium plated steel fasteners.

All in all 4 years with no maintenance it doesn't look that bad but you can start to see that the Powder Coating is starting to fail (It should only last about 5 years in ideal conditions)

WOW! that makes me feel a little bit better living in So Cal. I installed mine with Stainless security Allan bolts to replace the stock ones. 4 years later it is as good as the day it was installed.

I am surprised BC is that much different. I get the climate difference but did not think is was that harsh.

Ooooh.. Tech orders. You're speaking my language!

(hopefully you can open this one, it didnt ask me for my credentials)

Chap 2, ssn 2.6.2 talks about Galvanic Corrosion. Specifically about aluminum and cadmium.
Chap 3, ssn 3.7 talks about preservation. Specifically regarding corrosion prevention compounds and their limitations.

The other sections in the manual talk about a variety of topics but what I mentioned above should steer you in the right directions. All the MIL-PRF stuff can be googled to see what the civilian equivelant would be. Granted, all this is way above the scope of what you're asking for but if you geek out on this stuff like I do, its a fun read.

+1 on this. That bolt is stuck, and you need to break the friction holding it in. If you drill it and try to back it out with easy outs, you're still fighting that friction. Use something like liquid wrench, vs WD40.

I'm in Alberta, not BC. It's way harsher..

Going to keep looking for fasteners in AB before i try and remove it, then will replace all the parts and add anti-seize
