I apologize in advance if there are already a dozen posts on this topic, but I was hoping to find out what kind of compatibility there is with newer OEM radio headunits on older trucks? Specifically, I have a 2008 with the regular CD/AM/FM player, but I'd like to put in a newer OEM one with BT connectivity and USB and such. Can it be done? Is it mostly plug-n-play?

I realize an aftermarket makes this pretty simple, but oddly I really prefer the OEM look. Thanks in advance!

Go w/ a unit out of a 2013. Less buggy than the 2012’s.

First I've heard of the 2012 head unit being buggy.

Fwiw, the 2015 is the last year that will fit easily. From reading on here, the third gen will cause more trouble than its worth.

I’ve owned a MY12&MY13. The MY12 headunit was very buggy. Voice commands were impossible to use. Pairing was harder and slower and the interface was less refined.

I'm guessing the 2012 just needed a software update. Mine was fine, until it wasn't (something shorted and caused the buttons on the right side to stop working and I lost Bluetooth and nav).
