That's probably why it seems like a majority of the 1st gen specific carriers are on the west cost.

1 last thought, I in no way was bashing first gen trucks or the people who own them. I myself own a 45 year old International 1210 pick up truck that I love, I said most not ALL first gen owners cant afford a newer one. I should of phrased that statement better, I am truly sorry. I was just explaining to the op how manufacturing products works from a business perspective. Does it suck? yup, sure does. Finding parts for my IH is nearly impossible and forget about cool after market stuff, its just not produced anymore. The sad truth is that businesses are in it for the money and the market for older vehicles is much smaller in comparison to newer vehicles. Its just going to keep getting harder and harder to find cool shit for 20 year old trucks. After many years of fabricating everything I wanted or needed for my International I find it refreshing to have such an awesome selection of products and parts for my 3rd gen. With that being said I hope all first gen owners can still be enjoying their tacomas 20 years from now or longer,, the love for a vehicle doesnt have to stop just because its old or you bought something newer.

You must not have been on here ten years ago, it was a feeding frenzy. I wouldn’t sign up because of the shit talk, now it’s really nice to be a member here, imo.

    It's all good man.

I happen to be one of those people who likes the older style trucks for their size and relative simplicity, yet still have a lot of creature comforts, like A/C, power windows, etc... I used to think I wanted an older 'Cruiser or something. But I like my cruise control and a/c, lol...

I have plenty of pin stripes in my 1st gen, can't imagine what I'd have with a big ass 3rd gen, lol. I don't have any fancy widgets or switches. I don't need to try and figure out what button to push if I'm driving in loose sand. Tire pressure. Low range. Locker. That's it.

If you need a cheap truck because that's all you can afford, you shouldn't be looking at a Tacoma of any era.

I've wheeled a little bit with my '17 4Runner, and of course it did quite well, but I get get some body damage simply because of its size (got stuck in a narrow stream channel). I also messed around with the DAC it has, and quite frankly, I hated it. Ever activate the ABS in a panic stop and hear that loud banging sound? Yeah, it's like that but you're doing 3mph.

There just seems to be this misconception that because you can't go down to the local mall and buy a bunch of pre-made 1st gen specific stuff, or because some companies that make 2nd/3rd gen stuff don't make 1st gen stuff too, that means there "isn't any aftermarket support" for them. I showed in a previous post there are numerous brands that build specificially for 1st gens. True, there are probably more brands out there for 2nd/3rd gens, and I don't think anyone expects any different. But how many different brands of hi-lift mounting brackets do we really need?

For me, and I think a lot of 1st gen people is what I said earlier about the whole "built, not bought" thing. I'd rather spend some extra time with my grinder and welder and make a custom widget, rather than buying one. Sure, it looks like shit because I'm not an artist (I'm a grinder, not a welder, lol), but it gets the job done for a fraction of the cost.

Anyhoo, my truck is better than yours because I'm more awesomer. :boink:

Oh we still shit talk (obviously), lol...

I think more people just recognize it for what it is (most of the time): good natured sarcasm.

FWIW, I test drove a TRD Pro 45k what a joke!, biggest pos compared to a first gen, btw if 3rd gens are so cool then they need hood struts, why not add shit like that for the price and they still have hood props=suck. Also no balls to that engine with no option for a manual... it’s not just the hood prop that sucks @ that price we deserve long travel with Kings and a Supercharger with a tunable ecu, so imo 3rd gen offers me nothing exciting. The fact we are arguing is moot, guys with new trucks aren’t going to say they made a bad decision, like I did buying a Samsung fridge and having it go belly up right after warranty ended. If I had 45k for a 3rd gen I would go and get a used Raptor truck, Toyota needs to realize it had a good thing with a compact pickup, why not offer 2 versions Toyota? One compact and one oversized. This doesn’t mean I hate 3rd gens but I don’t prefer them.

If I'm going to pay $50k for an offroad truck, it better come with bumpers/swingouts, 33's, a winch, sliders, and all that stuff too. Hell, throw a snorkel, RTT, and UHF coms in there too. But no, we get Pro branded floor mats and some shocks and all season tires.

My god the things I could do if I spent $50k on a 1st gen. We're talking full tube chassis, links, tons.... Bet I could even get crawl control on it.

i should consider myself and truck lucky then i could even get a Line-X done as old as it is :drunk:

i admit to getting that extended warranty :anonymous: this truck cost a pretty penny or two back in the 90s
and was just trying to protect my 'investment' and work vehicle
... did not ever have to use it for some reason, money in 'their' pockets i guess is how it turned out :spending:

Oh I know, just making a point, lol. I've already played around with the downhill assist on my 4runner, and I hated it.

Really, crawl control is just cruise control for 4Lo. But that's kinda like trying to use cruise control on city streets. Rarely are you wanting to go the same speed for more than a few dozen yards. Off roading in technical terrain is even worse, I'm constantly varying the speed.

If I ever do SAS, I'd throw a Marlin taco box in there, too.

lol, most are fine gents (and ladies).

But we like to tease the thin skinned ones, especially when they post in the first gen section about things like needing a body mount chop to fit 33's (that's not a thing 1st gens need to do, but common for 3rd gens).
