Yes. You pull the tail housing. There should be 4 bolts holding it to the rest of the trans. You'll lose a couple quarts of fluid when you pull it so be prepared for that. Once it's out just beat the bushing out after pulling the c-clip.

Lol. You think this part is bad wait till you try and get the unit in. You'll have about 1/8' of clearance from the rear cross member. Most guys have had to cut it out but I managed to get it in without torching the cross member. When I get home I'll tag you and link you to my build thread on t4r.org.

It is. Installs aren't that well documented so you just do what your doing and ask questions. All the time and money are beyond worth it though. It really is the single best mod you can do to your rig if you like to play in the big rocks.

 

I recommend installing the unit in pieces instead of a whole. Weighs less and make it more manageable, IMO.

I can see how that makes it easier but I built the whole unit on my bench then installed it as one piece. That way I could bench test everything and make damn well sure it worked. It's a good thing I did because after I removed the interlock pin and ground down the shift rails it still didn't go into 2lo. I had to remove more of the shift rail. It would have sucked balls to find that out after it was in the rig.

 

Yeah man, the lack of info is driving me nuts. Isn't going to get much better though, have a Dana 60/80 out of a F350 dually sitting with other parts to SAS. Dually Dana 80s are the hardest damn thing to research i've ever seen. I swear I could get Kim Jung's personal phone number before I could find a credible source of info on 'em

Luckily got access to a trans jack, but if we're struggling i'll keep that in mind for sure. so you filled it with fluid post install then?

 

Yep, from the shifter. For me, even with a flat hydraulic lift table and the use of a transmission jack, the unit was awkward to move, especially with no room in the cab channel. I figure it was easier to install each unit and give the rtv time to dry before moving to the next. I was in no rush to use my vehicle and didn't want to redo it.

You're welcome and thanks. My rig was built to do three things. Drive to the trail head. Wheel hard trails. Drive me home. Although with the amount of shit I've broken and fixed I might just make it a trailer queen in it's next stage of life. lol

 

Sounds like our trucks have lived similar lives, lol. It was a lifechanger getting a daily, now its time to start doing fun upgrades rather than constantly blowing money on broken IFS crap

 

This rig will remain IFS. There's a future 5 year goal that includes a real build. Probably on portals with a bobbed pickup bed. I'm still designing it in my head.

About 6 months ago I switched over to RCV CV's. They aren't cheap but I haven't broken anything in the front since. There's been a lot of hard miles in those 6 months too. lol

 

Portals I have CVJs now and they’ve held up well. I’m worried if I went RCVs I’d just blow diffs instead. On my fourth diff (two sets of spider gears one Aussie I scrapped) now and I’ve even snapped one of the brackets that holds it in place. If I went to RCVs I can’t imagine what up stream would blow up, if not just a shit ton more diffs

 

gonna have to get trailgear gears after all. Need to figure out where to get these other random parts

 

Marlin was actually super helpful helping me get the parts I was missing for my used crawlbox.

You and I are in the same boat. Looks like we called Marlin a day or so apart, too. The more calls they get, the better. They need to get that ball rolling. Six speeds need crawl box loving, too!
