Possibly but the builder says the new technology of the extruded design will way out perform anything in
it’s class for comparison and it’s going to be 2.5” thick

Yeah sounds like extra cooling won't be needed at all with that bad boy. Be nice to not ever have to worry about the radiator in back of your mind

That’s were I’m at!!! Sick of looking at that temp gauge when it’s 105 outside and stuck in traffic. Will check back in 3 weeks middle of August when temperatures outside will be hotter

Educate me on what else the issue(s) could be? My hood stays hot hours after the truck is turned off.

Educate me on how adding nearly a gallon of coolant to your system can make your truck run hotter.

    Possible other factors... Let's see
    Bad water pump, or
    Bad thermostat, or
    Clogged heater core, or
    Any number of other things.

The Champion may be developing a track record for leaks, but no one has ever said it makes their truck run hotter.

New water pump, new thermostat...there was never an issue before the first Champion was installed, so by process of elimination it seems like the Champion is the cause...you sound like this is hitting a nerve, relax...this forum is about education without being a prick, try it...I’m no master, I’m trying to learn, so don’t be a prick.

    @JMJordan

How am I being a prick?

You made a statement that your truck runs hotter now than before the Champion. I made a statement that you may have a different issue that is an underlying problem.

You tell me to "educate you" and I answered your question.

You say all your problems started when you replaced the radiator. Did you make sure to properly burp the system of air when you did that? Because THAT is another very common reason for overheating these engines. (of course you'll say you did, because you're convinced I'm being a prick... when I'm only trying to help)

After all the complaints about these radiators... I think you're the first and only one that has said the Champion Radiator makes your truck run hotter.

Hm....wondering if rubber bushings should be used at the locations of the threaded bolt holes. Like drill it out and stick one of those sleeved rubber bushings on it.

I'm probably going to do exactly that while working on the truck this weekend.

K, I didn't think about it until someone stated the 'flexing'. We don't need poly bushings but rubber ones.

    Also @JMJordan

Did you install your Tstat correctly? Jiggle valve should be at 6:00 not 12:00... That will also overheat your truck. Non-OEM Tstat (if it doesn't have a jiggle valve) will overheat your truck.

Read the way you responded the first time to my post, very condescending.

Now, let’s move forward...let’s say the system was properly burped, what’s the next move you would make to resolve the issue?

I, like most people on here, aren’t professional mechanics, so I’m genuinely trying to learn.

Thank You for your assistance, it is appreciated.

Wasn't being condescending... was being direct... because that's how I roll.

Next thing I would look at is the jiggle valve on the Tstat. Because putting it in the 12:00 position seems like the logical thing to do, but it is incorrect. I don't know what magic is involved in that shit, seems to defy the laws of physics, but the jiggle valve should be at 6:00.

There's a sticker on the back of the top plastic tank near the upper radiator hose fixture that has a date on it, March 2004. Since my Taco is an 04 model, I deduced that the date on the sticker was the date of manufacture of the radiator and was probably installed on the Taco at the factory, in 2004.

Running hotter after Champion installed is NOT from the radiator.
Maybe your thermostat is incorrectly positioned maybe your fan clutch is not working maybe you didn't burp the system correctly and there is air trapped in there

Who's making it / for how much? Also are the leaks easily fixed if you can weld aluminum?

I will update that Info when it’s done and I receive it and I’m happy.

Will not be cheap but like a set of good shocks I want the Kings Struts not the Monroe anymore.

Champion seams are busting loose on me, not worth welded For me,
I’m not going to be chasing leaks

I need a radiator for a 2002 3.4 Automatic 4wd. I was all set on getting a champion but it seems like they don't have the best reputation. I'd be happy getting a factory OEM radiator but it seems like the parts sites I look at all show "discontinued". Am I missing something? What's a good radiator to get?

Toyota didn't make radiators for the Tacoma (or in any vehicle they produced in that era I believe). The OEM was a purchased part from another company - I'd go with the cost vs. reputation scenario - I have a Champion, but a $100 Mishimoto that I previously purchased waiting in case something happens.
