Yup... I guess it's a super duper top secret modification. That little widget supposedly replaces my old style 4 ford tractor style sonlenoids.

When was water pump done? And was it a aisin pump?

I have had a lower hose suck flat under heavy throttle and cause me to overheat all summer.

I would do what you outlined. I also shim my hoods up by placing washers between the hood and hinge it will stop some of the turbulance in the engine compartment allowing more air flow.

I have seen them installed on crawlers and they helped on slow trails. The amount of heat that came out of them was impressive. I havent priced 1st gen hoods, but if they are cheap then it would be an interesting experiment. But toyota designed your truck to work without them so it would just be a bandaid.

Oh, I'm not suggesting the louvers as a fix for my current situation.

I already recieved a new shroud
    Ordered lower shroud panel
Ordered lock up solenoid for trans
    Recieved the magnaflow filter
    Ordered the trans cooler
Ordered a solid state contactor to replace the large solenoid box for my winch in front of my radiator
Ordered the new Tstat and O-ring
And I have enough Redline ATF to drain the pan and fill (including the additional capacity from the filter, cooler, and additional lines)

The louver panels would be just to get additional heat out of the engine compartment along with doing the list above.

Also looking in to a metal coil the right diameter to shove in my lower hose to combat collapsing it (you made a point earlier that I hadn't thought of)

Nope. Because Toyota antifreeze is designed to last longer, not cool better.

    I run around 60 distilled water / 40 Prestone

And yes... I flushed the shit out of the system when I changed over, because I know Toyota and Prestone don't play well with each other.

Do you hear any gurgling from under your dash?

    Have you inspected your plugs?

Do you have a carbon test kit for your cooling system?

I have not heard any gurgling from the heater core. (I will be flushing the absolute shit out of it this weekend though, as precaution)

I have not pulled the plugs, but will this weekend while I'm working on it.

No I do not have a carbon test kit.

The plugs are a definate inspection item for peace of mind. But I really don't think it's going in the direction that leads to. I have no raindow effect in the coolant, and the oil is nearly pristine looking. Also, I have driven it for 2 days since the boilover with no sign of overheat and no loss of coolant.

But... again... it is absolutely worth checking.

I am leading an Overland Bound group to Bodie and Copper Mountain this coming weekend. Mostly all local people that attend the Central California meet up. Easy wheeling, but still good fun. You are welcome to come if you are interested.

Damnit. I've never been to Bodie, and I want to go. But I think the desert is the last place I need to go before I figure out my current situation with my truck.

I swear Dave, I WILL make it on one of your trips with you someday.

It’s the high desert so it’s cooler than here with temps 85/45, but we are going over Hwy 108 and that would be the hard part if you are running warm

Ya... That's pretty exactly where I had my problems Friday night. I think I'll have everything sorted by the end of this weekend though.

It's just gunna be hot as hell working on it. And I think just about everyone is going to be out of town, so looks like I'll be running solo working on it. Not looking forward to it.
