So guys.... Machine shop told me to look for a used motor and not to bother pulling mine apart or buying a remanned. Now Iv got a big hole in my taco!!!! Found a 2010 with 53k on it thats super clean. They want 350 for the core charge. Should i take the 350 and run or keep the old block with 250k on it?

How much for the 2010 engine and who wants the core charge ? 53k mile motor wont need a rebuild so what is the core charge for ? Also don't think they will except core with a hole in it .

Give your motor to them and avoid the $350 core charge. You get 53k mile engine. This looks like an easy one.

Doesn't look likes it's worth more than $350. Avoid the core, it'll just sit at your house forever, and your wife will complain about it, and what she could have done with the $350.

I got a spare 3RZ short block for my 1st gen for scrap value. A friend swapped it, it'd been hydrolocked and had a bent rod and a little surface rust in the one bore, but otherwise perfect. I moved that bitch around for ages with the thought I'd do something... maybe forged internals and a blower? Anyway... ended up scrapping it.

Take the $350 and run. See, the shitty part of trying to sell used parts is... the junkyard has a customer base. They have more cash customers than you'll find on CL and probably Ebay, plus shops (and other yards in their network) that are looking for what they're selling. You... do not. Especially not when what you have (essentially a core) ain't worth sticking into a truck.

can you wait until you have the new(er) engine in and up in running before turning over the core? I personally would not turn in the core until you can drive your Tacoma there with it in the bed.
