Resale matters when it gets totaled. Since DUI and hit and run were decriminalized over the past few years the odds of having a vehicle written off went up sharply. Yay justice reform!

All the other mid size trucks are fugly
    And the resale value

Then again, the resale value is great because of most of those other reasons you have listed.

Mine is a company vehicle and all we use are Toyota’s. I’m in the dairy business, I do some hauling occasionally and very little off-roading. We run them for about 250k miles before we get new ones.

I just came off of a 2nd gen 2015 (255k miles), just got my current 2019 in May, already have 9500 on the clock ...my options were a Sienna mini van (gag) or a Tacoma...’‘twas a no brainer.

Always wanted a taco ever since my pops bought his 2004 model, but I have/had my IS300. Since then my buddy bought his new (at the time) corolla and it came with all the new tech goodies.

Told the wife once the 3rd gen tacoma comes out it'll be load with the same (if not more) tech goodies and I was surely right.

Now I have my 2018 and loving every goodies with it. Besides, I always wanted a taco and now I do.

At 175k miles 05 Frontier was getting to beat, considered replacing it with a newer one and moving the goodies over from the old one. But then I started reminiscing about replacing the transmission, radiator, timing chain, yadda, yadda. I'm positive they've got the bugs worked out by now but I know the first little thing to go wrong and I'd have been filled with regret for not buying the Taco.

    Had a 2013 dclb.

    Wanted a locker.

After much deliberation I also decided I wanted a dcsb.

Got good offer on my trade in and a great price on a brand new 18.

I bought because I wanted a truck and since TOYOTA has a bullet proof rep with me, i thought it was the only WTG.

Oh, and btw, I'm still going places while others stay behind

    Cheers!

I prefer cars and smaller vehicles but have to keep a truck at home for projects, helping my gramma, hauling off limbs or junk etc etc. I've had a few trucks with the most recent being a 2018 Silverado 5.3L. Honestly I loved that truck, it would go up the same hills with cruise control in 6th gear and a thousand pounds of gravel in the bed without downshifting, the Tacoma will downshift to 3rd with no load. MPG was better than Tacoma and sitting in it was like being on my couch. Downside? Reliability, at 13k miles it already felt like the truck was going to fall apart and y'all wanna talk about trans issues, this thing would bang into gear so hard I thought the trans fell out! I considered the Tundra but I just couldn't bring myself to spend that kind of money on something so old nor stomach the 13-15mpg average people report on their forums with normal driving when I only need a part time truck. Tacoma is the only midsize I think looks good and the only other brand I truly trust is Honda but they don't make a truck.

    First and foremost this ^.

There were of course other reasons - Off road performance being another important one - but reliability trumps all the others for me.

When reliability is what you need first and foremost, then you combine all the other reasons mentioned, there’s nothing else on the market that even comes close.
