Just passed a black 2nd gen with a net for a tailgate going North on 234, waved at you

 

Negative, Ghostrider. Drip drying in my office chair as I type. Ugh. Rain wet is preferable to the sweat wet I've been experiencing the last few weeks though......Smells better.

 

Probably worth a call to the ranger station to find out if it is still closed. It was only supposed to be closed for a couple months.

 

I haven't been yet either. Should be plenty it's all national forest. From what I'm told its easier trails.

 

There are some (very) challenging areas. But most have a way around.

 

I was up there last month and it was closed off. I believe they are all done and its open now.
*I just called the Rangers office and the work is complete. All the roads are open*

 

magnets is all you need !! plus you can remove your plate easily if needed.

Had the same idea. Unfortunately, magnets don't attract through Line-x.

 

Cool, I was planning to call them today.

 

Question for you guys who have installed the ECGS bushing: Is it necessary to remove the axle nut to pull the CV for installation on a 2nd gen? I just noticed the torque spec for the axle nut is 173 ft. lbs.! I don't have a torque wrench big enough to re-tighten that monster.

 

Breaker bar of the long variety?

 

Removing it wouldn't be a problem, i'm talking about getting it torqued back to spec when reinstalling it

 

I know. I have rarely torqued things in 30 years of doing this. I don't know where all this torque concern came from. Unless it's a mating surface like a head or manifold type thing I don't see the point. I didn't start torquing lug nuts until a few years ago and that was because I owned two German vehicles that were a mother to loosen if over-tightened.

Alternatively, if you still want to torque, purchase a cordless 1/2 inch impact. Great tool to have around either way.

Pretty sure you can rent a monster torque wrench from Autozone. Or you can buy one online like I did.....or you can come borrow mine.

 

Thank you. I've just been told that it should be possible to do the job by only pulling the CV from the diff by removing the two LCA bolts from the bottom of the spindle to move everything out of the way. Hopefully i wont have to mess with the hub/ axle nut at all
