Right it’s not bad per se but after awhile you’re on the hook for the disposal of xtra plus size hibiscus print boxer shorts.

 

I’ve been reading and reading for countless hours when having time on this thread. This is probably hands down the most accurate comment I’ve read anywhere. Although I didn’t get bashed when I asked about lift information, could definitely sense negativity in some of the wording. Even had someone suggest skinny tires no lift and didn’t think I was rude in any way of the comment but the comment afterwards was well understood as that person wasnt happy with my response. I just don’t want them and honestly didn’t ask for them.

I’m still researching lift kit and options quietly . And personally I think if you want information best, find someone’s truck you like how it looks and read about what they do with their truck and their experiences. Then private message them telling them you really like it and ask more info then ask about the lift. I’ve had nothing but great positive comments since I’ve been doing that. Even had one guy give me a detailed list of every part needed to purchase the exact same lift setup he used.

 

You could use them to line the walls of your strata like wallpaper!

I watched every second of it to get a better understanding of larger lifts on these smaller trucks with independent front suspensions. There is some detailed custom cutting and modifying that goes on but nothing that voids warranty and nothing that can’t be changed back. Just depends on how much money you’re willing to dish out because you’re like me..... if we’re asking lift kit questions, this kit is highly outside of our skill set as well as typically don’t have all the tools needed to do the job. Well worth watching the hour long install video.

 

To the OP. It does depend on how you plan to use the truck?
The only way to know a good opinion is from someone who has done both types of lifts.
You're going to get the people who still believe that the "World is Flat".
Or the one who are deathly afraid of cutting the frame? (Big deal!) If you buy a good quality kit the replacement cross member is way stronger than the thin metal factory crossmember.

As for gears? I'm planning to do 5.29 Nitro gears but so far the truck drives better than expected with the stock gears.
As for underwear? Back in the day? (My younger days) these truck were "Panty droppers!" I'm sure if a dude saw a girl driving a nice rig he would give up his boxers! LMAO!!
Oh? And sometimes at stop lights you might see something no one should ever see. LOL!!

 

Pretty sure this guy just sold a ton of 6” lifts to the younger crowd.

Thanks for the info peps. Yall right it's my truck oli can do as I please but what would you recommend and why?? I'm not set on anything in particular. I liked the look of a bigger truck and was contemplating between a 4 or a 6. I get why the 6 get a bad reps right because you have to cut a bunch but what is the route of getting a 4?

 

You cut with 4” also from every bit of info I’ve gathered. 3” and less obtainable through coil overs and add a leaf easily. Then there’s suspension blocks but think those aren’t as good for off roading or heavy torque. Kinda like having a 4x4 post supporting your porch. You want that post to be one solid beam and strong because it supports a large amount of weight held above it. If it’s a 4x4 post with a cut in the very middle of it and some screws and plates added to it, not a great idea for long term use. I have zero suggestions because I’m still researching the route I’ll take. Just would advise staying away from block kits

 

Yeah I've been talking to a few others on instagram and everyone has been kinda pointing me toward the 3' because it has very minor mods. I've never really considered it until now. Definitely gonna do my research before I make a decision on this. Appriciate the feed back

 

Anything more then a 3" lift you're really pushing the limits on a stock suspension.
3" lift with 285's you'll most likely need to do a cab mount chop to get good clearance.
You can tweak the alignment to help with clearance. But that would require UCA's to do so.
A decent 3" lift with UCA's would run you about $1,500 or so depending on the brand you select?
A decent 6" lift would run you about the same.
A 3" lift what you are basically doing is running the stock suspension at almost full down travel. (Imagine it as a women wearing heels) Or standing on the tips of your toes.
That is how it raises the stance.
A DB lift would be the equivalent of extending you legs to gain more height. (Rather than standing on your toes)
You ankle (Suspension) would still have full articulation up and down. (less likely to have wheel lift off)

Yes! I understand it's a corny analogy to relate suspension to heels, toe and leg extensions. But it gives you the basic understanding of what each lift is doing.

wheel to wheel you don't gain (Drivers to passengers) you maintain the same clearance as the stock suspension with larger tires. When someone say a 3" lift has better clearance?? That's partly true. BUT!! Only because of the increased angle of the LCA's with a 3" lift. Angle for angle they are exactly the same!

Now ground clearance front to rear? Hands down the DB 4 or 6" lift will have the advantage. (But that is to be expected because 4 or 6 is greater than 3) No brainer there!

Advantage of a 3" lift is that should you ever change your mind and want it back to stock? It fairly simple to return your truck to stock.

The DB Not so much! You would need to reweld the crossmember into the section that you cut. Not an easy task! But can be done.

For all those serious offroaders out there? Straight axles conversion is the way to go! Check out Demello's 2WD Tacoma that they transformed into a Beast! But again that fits a specific type of offroading!

So there's an argument Good and Bad for any lift you can think of depending on how the person will use the truck.

That's why I stated earlier that you need to decide exactly what your needs are and go with the one that fits!

Who gives a crap about what "Bubba Big Balls" thinks is best for the serious off-roader? Or those stupid comments about compensating for some type of manly hood BS.

At the end of the day you're the one going to have to look at it and drive it everyday!

As for me I can sit there for hours admiring my truck even if it's only a "Mall Crawler" I love everything I did to my truck! If given the chance I wouldn't change a thing!

Mine are mounted on the stock wheels and don't rub the stock UCA.

 

4 inch BDS lift here. I bought the truck used with the lift on it. I instantly loved the look however its my daily driver and drive 95% hyw.

I have put 51,000 kms on it since Feb 2018 with zero issues.

I would say the BDS kit provides the correct look and stance i was after but i would be hesitant to take it for serious off-road excursions. I have off-road'd it lightly and it performed fine but without proper long travel front shocks and adjustable UCA's would have concerns at full flex. It creeks and groans with the OEM set up on spacers now just toying around.

I did reduce my tire size from LT275/75R18 to P275/65R18 recently and that also helped a lot for everyday use.

BTW as for the haters and negative comments on the forum, just remember its the WWW and move on. Use what is helpful and ignore the rest.
