Got a preliminary estimate from a GEICO adjuster. He said I'm around 30 percent of the estimated value; they cash out at 80. Let's hope it doesn't increase too much after a thorough probing.

Get more quotes, or at least another one that isn't directly affiliated (non-biased). The preliminary I got was a maaajor lowball and they didn't even look under the truck.

I plan to. This was my insurance company's estimate. I'm not under any illusion that this will be what it costs. There's no doubt it will go up. Based on the numbers he used, repair costs would have to go up an additional $14k to reach the threshold for totaling. Not to jinx myself, but I don't see that happening.

 

also since its so new, make sure its Toyota OEM not aftermarket crap that will have fitment issues.

 

3rd gens are robust so you should be good to keep the good vibes!

My repair was done with OEM parts...used parts, but still OEM

 

I have an itemized list of the parts. The tailgate took most of the (panel) damage. The bed sides are really just some simple bodywork. Wouldn't bother me if the bumper was aftermarket. It's not long for this world anyway.

 

Hah, I'm actually thinking about buying a new one. Can't find one that is in decent enough condition for what people are asking.

 

Yeah people are fucking crazy. I'm looking at new but i don't want another payment.

The only used part on the list is the frame.

Edit: Everything else is aftermarket. It's all fine except the taillight. That'll be OEM.

Only lists two hours of frame labor? That doesnt seem right...

I got rear ended while parked, its how my modfest funds on this truck began... Original place recommended by my insurance quoted $500 for new rear bumper and USAA wanted to cut me a check that day. I looked up the part number and it was wrong. I pointed this out and the adjuster didnt like it. State Farm (the offenders insurance) came to my place and their adjuster gave me $1700. So I'd definitely check up on their numbers!

 

I think "smaller" is the key in this case.
