how much is new similar truck for these days?

there are probably TW groups scattered across the nation with knowledge/experience to frame swap for nominal $$$ or beers and pizza
fck dealer and body shop and their possible +10grand job

i loved watching that show when i was a teen :anonymous: and same zip code i use for general purpose as well lol

    $10-15k, lol

There are MANY members here who go out of their way like that. I've seen many threads where people will drive out of their way and help a fellow Taco driver out of a ditch type stuff.

A project like a frame swap is kind of a big ask, but there are several people who hold "build parties" at their houses where several people get together and wrench on everyone else's trucks. Help with maintenance items, lift installs, that type of stuff.

i thought new 'similar' trucks were anywhere from $35k to $50k? that is what new midsize truck cost these days? ... no compact truck out there that i know of with 4wd capabilities

how does that happen right in the middle part?
is it totally filled with salt water or similar substance that high up with no way to vacate just sits there until it evaporates?

i would've also expected that muffler to be looking quite crusty, unless it was replaced previously?

Unfortunately there really isn't a comparable. Auto technology has come so far so fast that these early first gens and even the 01-04 is very very barebones comparatively. Anything new, you are forced to pay for all of that forced mandated technology that I don't want. Lots of people like the safety crap and all of that other stuff. That crap costs a lot of money.

I thought you meant "comparable". I was thinking another 1st gen in good condition. Yeah, NEW ones are 30-50k.

Yeah, I'm actually not a fan of those. A friend of mine has a 2nd gen 5-lug, and every time we use his truck to go dirtbike riding, I can see those things flex a little bit when we tie the bikes down.

Granted, we have never lost a bike on the freeway, and the rational part of my brain knows we won't ever loose one, but my primate brain just gets nervous.

    @DGXR your truck sucks.

Did a major repair on my '82 SR5 frame years ago, got me by for awhile but wasn't worth all the work in the long run. Best thing to do is source a clean frame.

So I’m looking at a first gen this afternoon.

    2002 double cab 4x4 trd

This is the worst spot on the frame from what he said. He’s telling me he has zero idea why the previous owner put the metal on it. From what he can tell zero frame rust.

    Thoughts?

That's been painted over, there's rust underneath that there paint and a hole was patched up it looks like.

I'd be wary of that but maybe someone that knows rust better than me can tell you
