You can get replacement key fobs on Amazon for under $30. programming it is simple and takes about 10 mins in your driveway.

I wonder how long the PO drove the truck with this alarm issue. Maybe that's why it has so few miles; she just stopped driving it after she lost the fob.

Need to see some pics of this $2500 truck.

The wheels are turning in my head as we speak. I think I have found my next project after tundra brakes. I just wonder what the mechanic did to disable the alarm.......

Might have disconnected the actuator. Pop a panel and take a peek.

Which panel ? What exactly am I looking for ? Sorry alarms and wiring and that sort of thing is where my mechinal skills are definitely lacking. I do remember there was a small red light underneath my dash that had to do with it I’m pretty sure does that sound stock ?

You said driver door lock doesn't pop when you hit the button? I'd peek behind that panel. I believe there's a post on door locks in the sticked post on first gen section

Ahhhh yea I get what your saying now that’s simple enough. For some reason I thought you where talking about the whole alarm system not just my door lock issue

Find the alarm box under the dash somewhere. It should be a black plastic rectangular box maybe 4-6 inches wide. Take a picture of it. It should have a model number on it. On some cars the dealer installed them under the seat, but it seems on these trucks they were under the dash maybe on the kick panel. Having the model number helps with getting the correct remote and finding info about how to program different features.

It's good to buy a remote from somewhere that will take a return if it doesn't work. Remotes for different years look the same and sometimes they put the electronics into new cases and lose track of which remote goes with which alarm system.

In the fuse box you can temporarily disable the horn by taking out the horn fuse. The fuse puller is in the fuse box under the hood near the battery. My 2004 Taco’s alarm went bonkers last week, so I unplugged about four plugs that were going into the alarm box hidden behind the kick panel in driver side. My remote still works for keyless entry lock/unlock.

Engine rebuilt. Otherwise, oldie but goodie
Similar problem in my 2001 Tacoma. Bought with a rebuilt engine, drive to work, no visible factory anti-theft but mechanic said there was an after market anti theft device that trips when we were checking on the alternator a few months ago. Haven't had a problem with it except now, took out the batter, tripped the anti theft. Tiny red light below the hazard button is flashing, coupled with intermittent clicking, no loud alarms. No clear button or switch, no large fuse box under the dash with a button, no switch I can identify under the hood. Power locking the door hasn't worked so far.

    Help.
    Many mahalos.

Funny story- not so funny- key will unlock the door but not lock it. I'm taking off the panel to see if I can get that to function.

Same here. The key in the door will unlock both doors but will not lock them. I can hear the something behind the door panel when I turn key to unlock door but no sound when I turn key the other way trying to lock the door. I’ve had truck 1 day. So this is on my to do list.

Just bought a 2000 Tacoma and seem to be having these same 2 problems! Alarm keeps going off and now truck won’t start. Backstory: Yesterday went to change ALL the fluids at local lube shop just to get a baseline for everything. Everything went great. Excited because everything was dirty but nothing looked too bad in the fluids! Then on the way home i stop to inquire about new tires. When i go back to the truck the ignition won’t fire. Meaning the Truck wont turn on. Everything Electric turns on but engine won’t click/fire. It’s a v6 manual so i think maybe I’m not fully depressing the clutch. So i move the floor mat so there’s no possible impediment and try again. No luck. Then, after a few attempts it magically fired up. That was weird. Go on my way. Then it Happened again at my next stop. So i ended up just driving home and swapped in a new battery thinking the old one might be going bad. But when i Changed battery and reconnected the terminal leads the alarm started going off. It would sound off Intermittently...meaning it would sound, then turn off after 30 seconds-to a minute or so, and then I’d open the door or try something else (like turning on the vehicle) and it would sound again. (I dont think it’s a factory alarm but not totally sure...red LED push button type indicator on left side of the steering wheel, looked under the dash and seat and only found a small black box that said “motion sensor” on it). I googled the problem and came across this thread.
I’ve tried unhooking the negative battery terminal, turning the ignition key on, then rebooking up the battery and it just made all my internal lights start flashing on and off, but no alarm sound. And the truck still won’t turn on. Ok not ideal. But Then i opened the driver’s door and alarm started off again. Less ideal. So Then i tried manually locking and unlocking 3 times while alarm was going off And That didn’t work. any suggestions!!? Is there a particular order i should be trying these steps?
