I have had a 3 person ruggedized tent above my @SOS CONCEPTS softopper rack for a few years. My tent is really heavy and high profile. You will take a small mpg hit and you will feel it some on windy days. If you go this route I would recommend a lightweight hardshell type RTT. It really isnt to bad unless you run a lot of lift in the back then it gets noticeably more top heavy.

Thanks for the info! That's a beautiful rig there.
I'm probably going to pull the trigger on going this route come winter.
My 2 person tent has served me well, so I could deal with hanging on to it. The alternative of buying a hard shell on top of the new setup puts you pretty close to buying a GFC or Vagabond build...less the wait of course.

Considering the Datin Metal Fab Modular rack that goes over the softopper. Anyone in here have experience with them? I'm currently running a KB Voodoo so moving my attachments over would be easiest.

@SOS CONCEPTS is making modular racks now. Check them out. I love mine but this is pretty tempting. Check out the video. The softopper can slide right out!

Received what was supposed to be my x-cover iKamper today but I'm pretty sure I got someone else's RTT.

    A36FB0A0-E92B-410F-8E8E-827396CB43D0.jpg

My x-cover was supposed to be silver when closed but it's black and it was missing the accessories I paid for. The whole preorder process hasn't really been the best experience. I'm hopeful that iKamper can resolve this. Easiest solution is probably going to be to refund a few hundred to cover the cost of a wrap so I can go with a lighter color and ship the accessories I ordered.

Unfortunately no. Both style racks will not allow that. The rack would need to be about 7" above the topper

Picked up our tent in Bend, Oregon on the way to San Diego for a conference. After San Diego, we spent seven in it nights running through the west on our way back to the Seattle area.

I have folded mine under the rack. You have to pull the pins, drop it down, it takes some maneuvering but it can be done.

    Yes.
Finally pulling the trigger on a freespirit high country tri layer, does this company not offer sales? I always try to look for at least a 10 percent off somewhere but I’ve come up empty. Any insight on where to get the best deal on one of these tents? I’m in the Bay Area, CA

I have the High Country as well, but I don’t think it is tri layer. Made it through a thunderstorm without any leaks. Must be a reason they added another layer. Great tent, by the way

Potentially looking into buying a canoe. Anyone out there strap it on top of the truck running from the roof to an rtt?
