Now that it has been incredibly hot lately.
When the truck (2.7 4cly, manual transmission) has the AC on, I notice that it's even more quirky to shift especially 3rd gear. The main concern though is that diving on the highway for instance, the motor will have a brief blip in power that you can feel in the pedal, etc.
My guess is that it's the AC compressor turning on which when it does the Electronic throttle has to compensate power, hence the loss of power for a moment. Have any of you guys experienced this, or have similar issues?
I'm not to bothered by it, just want to know if I'm the only one who is experiencing this.

Mine does it too. I've become accustomed to turning the AC off temporarily if I know I'm going to need that little extra power back. (Interstate on-ramps, two lane passing, etc.)

    ^^^^^^^^^^^^^ here's your problem. lol.

Those A/C compressors take more than you would think to turn.

What engine doesn't lose power with the AC on?

It is slightly noticeable to me....not enough to make a difference though really....I don't try to accelerate that hard.

    Hell ya,
I’m a manual so I control shift points.
I still find farmers in their fancy tractors flipping me off as they pass.
Not quite that bad but yea I turn off the ac when needed to gain power.
Still love it I don’t need to go fast anymore!

I really don't notice much on my 2.7L Tacoma. It's FAR less than say a 4-cyl Chevy S10 or Ford Ranger that feel like they lose 50% of engine power when the A/C is turned on.

My other daily driver is a 2.4L 4cyl TSX 6speed, it's amazing what the A/C does to that motor when turned on and I have 210-220HP.

Most marquees I'm familiar with have had the ECU shut off the compressor at WOT since the mid '90's or so.

When you want 'extra power', give it more pedal.

I am not sure if our trucks do this? If so, any difference between Auto and manual?

I wonder how electric vehicles do when you have to run the AC the whole time you are driving.
