True that. I love cars, love trucks. Rennlist is the most popular forum for Porsche enthusiasts. TW being a popular website for Tacoma owners I enjoy learning. I’m new to the Toyota family and want to share and learn about any truck or car. I get a lot of joy from the Tacoma for a fraction of the price as the GT3 RS. Both are completely different but provide lots of fun, and that’s what it’s about

    @808veedub Simmer down now.

Craig obviously has far superior financial knowledge, as he/she has owned many a German autos over the years, whilst accruing debt & liability in the process, but he is smarter then everyone else, cause of the monies!

Take it with a grain of salt. In actuality, Craig is also bestowing upon this thread and the rest of Tacomaworld, his thin, seemingly insecure skin since the year of our Lord...June 10, 2019. He knows what is best for everyone else's financial situation, sight unseen.

Meanwhile, the rest of us "working stiffs" get to see his old license plates #'s on his garage wall.

    Truck/Harley guy here too.

Paid my Tacoma off in 4 months, paid cash for my 14 Street Glide.

Other than little stuff like a tonneau cover, and bed mat, my truck is pretty much stock.

Did the stage 1 on the Harley, and swapped out the bars, and added saddlebag guards.

I know a lot of people that spend more on chrome shit for their bikes than they pay for them. Been riding over 30 years and have never bought a single piece of chrome just to be adding chrome.

Dude mentions he owns a porsche in every freaking thread. No one gives a f**k bud. The full PPF on his pro thread was a dosey too.

I have 0% on my BMW motorcycle I just bought. The finance guy asked if I wanted to put any money down, but why? Even a basic savings account makes more than the free money BMW is offering.

I own mine outright. I did double and triple payments the first couple years and then a lump sum to finish it off. Now I gotta sell it for something bigger :rain:

Aint nothing wrong with making payments on a new truck.

Making payments on a new truck while maxing out all your credit cards to mod it to keep up with the TW Jones is just stupid.

The "I want it NOW" shit is fucked up.

Finally wised up to this now that I'm in my 30's, never maxed out CCs but definately didnt put it towards principal, savings or retirement like I should have. Though I will say the mod bug temptation is still there.

At first, I was slightly offended at this comment. BUT, as one of those who DID pay CASH for his truck, and does NOT owe a THING on it, after thinking about it, I have to say that you COULD be right to a degree. Because there are some people who might have walked into a dealership, and written a check for the total amount of their truck, thereby paying "cash", when in reality, they were just writing a check off of their home equity account, thereby really resulting in them adding either to their existing home loan, or just by utilizing their home equity line of credit. That is actually a smart thing to do if you cannot actually pay cash, since the interest rates on those types of loans are far lower than automotive loans. So 808veedub, you had a good point...

I agree with the minimize debt crowd. Because of its place in the economy and some faulty regulations it is hard to maintain a cash only home market, but true expenses such as vehicles rarely make sense to finance and even so called 0% is baked into the brand price. The thought of financing a nice truck because it otherwise can’t be affordable is a foreign concept for me.

My niece and her husband are both highly educated and successful at demanding and productive careers. They budget properly and live in reality. Both could “afford nice cars”. Instead they have very economical yet reliable used transportation.

When it came time to replace my 15 year old Tundra, I purposely evaluated my life position and the relative affordability of my Taco was a huge part of the buying decision. Of course this was a first world choice, but the cost per mile and total cost of ownership (the metrics that matter that many people ignore) made it clear I can retire potentially two years earlier in a Taco.

Taking out debt on a vehicle leveraged against your home is far from smart. Your putting your house up as collateral against a car.

Edit: What happens when ‘08 repeats itself and the equity in your home vanishes.

I bought my TRDOR AC back in April 2016. I put 20K down and made triple the payment every month.
I had it paid off just before Thanksgiving 2017. Feels nice when you see that the interest is always less than 30 dollars on each payment.:D
