2020 Tacoma Teased

They should start hitting the dealerships in Sept. If you can wait until deep into December I think you'll see the best deals. At least that's how it's always gone... but you never know.

 

The last time the Nissan frontier was updated the current Tundra was newly redesigned and released thats how long it's been. Both Toyota and Nissan do long cycle pulls. Regarding the Tacoma if they don't carry MT over I see a mad dash of people trying to get their hands on 2024 model or whatever the last year is.

I like a lot of things about my Tacoma but if they offered the 4Runner in manual it would have been a done deal. I also know that it is blasphemy on here, but if they had the Colorado ZR2 Bison diesel or even the V6 in manual that would have been hard to shy away from.

 

So I have convinced my parents to go halves with me on a truck upon finishing grad school next year. Should I go with a new 2020 OR or buy a turn-key built an older model?

The new model has some things I definitely want but I would then have to put more money in to build it. Turn key sounds so nice as I am not a gear head, just an outdoorsman who needs the truck to get further out there, carry my gear to the mountains in the winter and get into Overlanding.

What did people do for their first truck here, start from scratch or start with someone else work and learn from there?

 

You might as well buy new, resale is so high you basically pay new prices for a few years old truck that you don't know the history of. Maybe the previous owner did his own oil changes and drained it, then got distracted and started it with no oil for 30 seconds. That kind of thing.

Mods are nice if you can find a truck that has the upgrades you are looking for, as those mods typically don't add much to the price. However, you have to know what to look for, and make sure the mods were done correctly and professionally. Lot's of hack jobs out there.

 

I suggest a new OR with the trim level you like. Right out of the show room it will do everything you mentioned. Maybe some tires if the EOM's don't meet your needs.

 

Thanks for the advice. Interesting you say so many hack jobs. I feel like everyone in the classifieds here says they have the paper work and seems official. I’ll have to keep a closer eye out.

 

I definitely want to mod it out over time so I can get to more off road places. That’s why I was tempted by a used one with the works on it. But I suppose I can start stock see where it takes me and evolve with the truck

 

In that case I’ll probably just take a look in September and do the “take it or leave it” approach then actually leave and come back a few months later

 

I cannot get enough of how good that voodoo blue sport looks. Must not trade, must not trade.

 

Dealership in Hawaii already did Voodoo blue on basically a custom SR5 platform (too bad it was 2wd) to commemorate 100 years in business.

I saw that with the limited wheels. Not really the same given the 2020's new grille, lights, skewp on the sport, etc.

 

As of now, my 2017 3rd gen doesn't rattle (but my 2nd gen sure did).

Keep in mind, it's all still hard plastics. Over a handful of summers, I imagine it'll still end-up rattling quite a bit like my 2nd gen used to.

 

Wrap yours. About $600 in vinyl and a fun project.

 

Touché / great idea. That or just be content for once with my damn truck, pay it off and move onto something else.

 

+1 done this to a few of my own vehicles. Cheap, fun, and easy to rip off when you are done.

Are those the new 2020s? I put in my allocation to a local dealership and I am just waiting to hear back from them....

 

I don't think dealers can put actual allocations in yet, so it's probably more they are just promising you they will when available. At least my dealer said they can't actually order them (or even price them out) until basically you see them go up and live on the Toyota website and can build and price them through there. That basically means their ordering system is opened up and can start putting in dealer requests/allocations at that time.
