If you want a fun plinker, that’s the way to go in my opinion.

@mrbedgood will have some better and deeper info than I have. I’m certainly no expert, just a redneck that has a decent amount of experience

Never had any issues with my PSA build either, although I built mine back when they offered FN barrels. Don't have any experience with the cheaper nitride barrels they offer now but for the average casual shooter I've heard they don't have any issues.

If the lower was bought separate then you could turn it into a pistol. The whole buffer assembly has to be changed for a pistol.

I've built a ton of different ARs it's easy they are like legos

Like Matt said in the chlt thread if they sold it as a rifle even though it was a lower then you could enter some.legal issues. My gun store checks the receiver box and that requires you to either have your ccw or a pistol purchase permit because you can make it into either. I've gone through the process a bunch for sbr and suppressors even with an nfa trust it's a pita now some rules changed and it's gotten even slower.

So now I just need to figure out if it is legal to shoulder a brace? Looking at the SBA3 brace but getting some mixed news on if it can legally be shouldered.

    Edit: no it cannot

Don't think too much into the whole shoulder thing. There are very silly and illogical definitions within BATFE and firearms, read the definition of a pistol then think about how you shoot a pistol. Here is a shortened yet quoted version of the clarification letter on shouldering a brace after the first one said it would make it an SBR.

Most people will make a pistol and file the SBR paperwork at the same time. When the stamp comes in, change the buffer and put a real stock on it. It looks much better that way and is more comfortable to shoot.
