The San Diego City Council passed a regulation on 7/15/19 "Requiring all firearms in a residence to be stored in a locked container or disabled by a trigger lock unless they are being carried by or under control by the owner." I've heard violations will carry stiff penalties, but the details are not being released yet.

This is already federally illegal under the Heller decision. Be sure to point that out to them. It was one of the few things explicitly struck down in the ruling.

What are they gonna do? Show up and demand to see your guns?

Never underestimate the willingness of a graboid to violate other rights to get at your 2A rights. They'd throw the baby out with the bathwater if it meant winning on a wedge issue.

This should get interesting. This absolutely violates our 2A rights, which are already stomped on within the state. The state has always recognized your residence as a boundary but apparently not anymore.

Oh, I'm well aware of what they are capable of? My question is this, is it the written such that they can show up unannounced and demand an inspection? If not, I'd tell them to **** off.

Just so there is no mistake, I'm a firm believer in the 2A, especially as the framers intended. Which means, if infantry has it, so do the civilians. That whole check and balance thing.

Absolutely not. You have a 4th amendment right to privacy. At a minimum, they need a warrant, probable cause to get that warrant, and a constitutional basis on which to base that probable cause. Violating Heller is a poor way to go about that (not that it will stop them). If they show up, tell them to come back with a warrant through a closed door. Don't open the door, and explicitly tell them you do not consent to a search. if they violate that, start recording, state that you do not consent to the search, and save the video somewhere secure.

Then go speak to your lawyer.

No, chances are it won’t be enforced. It’s a add on charge.
Let’s say in the scenario, a child takes dads guns and goes to the local bowling alley and kills the kids that make fun of him, they would use it as a way of charging the parent with said violation and maybe tie in accessory to murder or whatever.

No it’s not legally sound, nor is that something that would stand to an appeal if it was to hit a federal court. However half the time little stupid laws like that come out it’s disguised as “public safety” but in real world it’s something to add to a charge sheet. The more a prosecution can stack the deck against you the more likely SOMETHING on the charge sheet will result in a conviction in a court.
