I have been saving up for Pelican Cases. The plano's flex too much and aren't water tight enough for me.

It has to be where the lid mates to the main body. There's an O ring but they're so damn finicky.

Yeah they were both like this, and I've had a constant battle with moisture. I want to take them off, but they're so handy. I don't want to have to put them in my bed for trips.

For the money they're definitely not bad, but this is one of those cases where you get what you pay for.

@EatSleepTacos Hey Randall, don't those watertight boxes you bought for in the bed come in a "under bed" size (like for your house)? How often are you going to need the handles on anything else?

No, nothing quite that long. That's a good thought, but I don't think those would be quite rugged enough either.

What about just drilling some holes in the bottom and then installing some sort of one way check valve or something along those lines. Yes, it will not be water tight per say but it might allow air to circulate and keep the insides drier. I would assume a all black case without some sort of ventilation would condensate no matter what. Add a bunch of solid metal parts that also hold that heat into the cooler nights and you will definitely create condensation.

Or, maybe I am way off.

There's already a one way valve on these cases.

That's for pressure though, and likely not flimsy enough to allow water to pass through. You need a very thin membrane style valve. Or a better seal. Shame, I had high hopes for this mod............

I'm just gonna brainstorm and decide what I wanna do. I've got a few ideas rolling around in there. The driveshaft is what makes it tricky because it's so damn long. Maybe mount that at the front of the bed with some quickfists, because the rest of the stuff packs small, comparatively speaking.

On another note, reinstalled my light bar. Thanks to BD for warrantying it and making it good as new. Had moisture in it that wrecked it’s internals.

Ahh, cool. That sounds like the cheapest alternative. Those Pelicans are so overpriced for anything less than sensitive equipment. I have a Nanuk 935 (which is somewhat on the smaller side) for my drone and it was ridiculous But it is built like a tank.

Yep we used to use them at work back in the day for all our computer equipment. That's the only time I've ever worked with the cases, and it sold me on them.

Funny you should say that. I see them (more cube shaped) on the government surplus auction site. If I ever see the right sizes I plan on putting a bid in.

Well, the search for an SUV is over...I lost the battle and we committed to purchasing this today. It is a state holiday here today, so we wont get the financing worked out and pick it up until tomorrow afternoon.

My wife did tell me I could replace the Tacoma with a new T4R down the road if I so choose though, so it isn't a total loss I guess.

I just dont have a very good opinion of domestic brands because I drive them at work and constantly have problems....this was my work car just yesterday...
