He needs to find out the "date of 1st use". That's the date the truck was originally sold to the 1st guy to own it. If it was originally sold in the US, more than 12 years ago, he's screwed.

He can go to toyota.com, register with 'my toyota' with his VIN, and the date of first use will be available his vehicle specs section.

Long story short - I welded a patch over the hole, they finally passed it for the inspection. No new frame, no more love for Toyota. They were happy to spray it with that stuff a couple years ago, when the frame could still be covered by the replacement campaign, but too bad for me when my time ran out. My Tacoma is going to be sold cheap. Last Toyota ever for me.

I went back and read all your previous posts in this thread. It's unfortunate that you went to a sucky dealer and they screwed you over. You should have gone to a different dealer and got things approved. You could have done that up until 3 days ago. Unfortunately, after July 21, 2019 it's too late for your '05. If the dealer documented your inspection with pics, you MIGHT have a chance with contacting Toyota Canada. My '06 Taco is registered in the US, but originally 1st sold in Canada. I took it up to Canada and got it inspected on July 4th, and they just called me last Friday and let me know that Toyota Canada approved my frame replacement. Mine was also sprayed with CRC a few years ago in Canada. That was before I bought it.

What year is your truck? Was it originally sold in the US or Canada?

My date of first use is January 01, 0001 for a 2010, what is up with that?

Also most of my rust seems to be in the engine compartment and welds, do they check there because my cross members look horrible.

Curious, did your Tacoma live its whole life in southern California? Frames in that area of the USA must see very little corrosion unless you live right on the ocean shore.

I have a 2006 Tacoma too and we had until January 31, 2019, to have it inspected.

Dealer tried to tell me mine wasn't covered for inspection. I'm the 2nd owner, and it was originally purchased January 2008. Does that sound correct?

Being the 2nd owner doesn't affect the LSC on your Tacoma. If your Tacomas "date of first use" was January 2008, then you have until January 2020 to have it inspected. I would call Toyota and not go by what the dealership tells you and make sure you never call this a recall because it isn't.

9937E3E8-C8B1-4194-83E3-6DE63779DB70.jpg I just purchased a 2008 that’s was my Grandfather’s with 32,000 miles. He had the coating applied to the frame a few years ago. Just looking around under the truck it looked good except one spot. I think the 12 years runs out mid November, but I doubt it would fail. Just looking for some input . Should I go around with a hammer and tap?

It’s not quite all the way through. It is bigger than 10mm though. Thanks for the reply.

Just a heads up when you get your new frame put under your truck. Make sure you put some type of top coat on it, because the paint is complete crap.
