on-board air setup....first gen.

alrighty.......been thinking of doing this for a while, and have decided that i wanna go ahead and do it. may do it soon too, as im planning a mod day not too far from now.

what i have already......

a mv50 air compressor

and this....

a 7 gallon portable air tank

been looking on my truck....under it for a mounting spot and have a couple of locations i can use. what i need to know....from folks who have done this before......besides the 2 things i have now.....what else will i need for an install??? i do plan on installing the regulator somewhere in the cab if that helps.

 

Why don't you do a C02 setup instead?

Faster to air up tires
Can still run air tools
As long as there is c02 liquid in the tank you have pressure
Portable
Smaller
about the same price

Just curious why cant you run air tools with the compressed air

 

you can...........depending on tank size and such. i'll be able to run small stuff off mine....but im mostly interested in airing up/down on trails..........things like that.

 

I had the MV50 mounted under the hood of a Jeep I owned a couple of years ago - it ran hot as hell, but never let me down. Hands down, the best, cheap small compressor you can buy.

Interested to see where you end up mounting it

 

if my truck didnt have friggin abs......i'd have a perfect spot for it. im still looking for a good mounting spot for the mv50.

anyone know what all else i'll need for the install??

 

Yeah, ABS is sooo inconvenient... J/K but good luck... I think I've seen people put tanks up in the rear wheel well, kinda in front of the wheel up inside the bed wall.

Ive seen this set-up a few times, Depending on location of the comp your goin to want to run out a new on/0ff switch and a pressure switch.

I have the same compressor and here's what I did, cover fits back perfectly, I kept the switch on the compressor and wired it into the 7 pin hitch plug.

 

Where would that be?

I don't have ABS

 

i did the same thing about a year ago but mine is up right and i have the air fitting down by my receiver

 

On a previous Dodge diesel, I installed air horns. I mounted an inbed tool box in the bed and that's where my tank and compressor were mounted. Key secured and weatherproof, worked great.

 

The ABS controller mounts under hood on top of the passenger side wheel well, between the cruise control assembly (if you have that) and the firewall. Right in front of the windshield wiper motor. You might have three holes already in that spot.

It would make a good spot for something. I've thought about mounting a second battery in that spot. A small compressor should also fit.

 

I love this idea. How do you go about wiring it to the 7 pin?

 

You could mount the tank under the bed where the spare goes, with fittings coming out the sides or something.
