    Hi all,

Just picked up an '03 PreRunner where the prior owner had mystery shocks added all around. To get the proper TRD designed ride I am hoping to order factory spec. Bilstien shocks and springs. The original TRD springs are bye-bye so they can't be moved over.

Checking Toyota part guides, I find these springs listed as - 4X4 with auto, manual, double cab, or w/o double cab. No listing for RWD. Thinking the lightest flavor would be - 4X4, manual, w/o double cab. I read somewhere the RWD PreRunners had their own spring spec.? The bilstiens shouldn't be an issue to find just the springs.

Don't want a lift, just the proper spring rate for the buggers. Any tips would be great. I'm guessing the 'lightest' 4X4 truck spec would be best? The PreRunner is an access cab with an auto for weight comparison. There may be a newer shock Bilstien specs that I won't spot, so any shock part numbers that are near or better than factory would be great.

ALL PreRunners are RWD. As for parts, A PreRunner is going to be the same as a 4WD. Literally, same frame, same suspension minus trans, trans case, etc.

With that out of the way, since you don't want a 'lift' then just replace the shocks with Bilstein 4600s. Sure you could go with a 5100 series (adjustable) but with no lift, why? Whichever you decide to order, make sure they include bushings as yours will be shot.

Since your PreRunner has the TRD Offroad package, then you're looking at the following part#s for coilsprings (confirm these with your local parts guy before ordering):

    Left (48131-AD090)

    Right (48131-AD080)
    https://partsfactory.camelbacktoyota.com/oem-parts/toyota-coil-spring-48131ad080

Also, FWIW - your leaf springs are probably coming up for replacement. Can't really suggest anything there. I went with a full suspension kit from Old Man Emu. Was going to go with General Springs KC but decided against it. Do your research on General Springs KC first. Lots of mixed reviews.

If you do decide to go with a lift, I suggest OME's full kit. The performance is excellent for most and produces really nice results on our trucks. Typically a 2-2.5" lift. Here are a few other options (same kit, different vendors) -

Area51Runner, Thanks for the welcome and tips! Pretty stoked, she's a one-owner, 160K mi. virgin from AZ (except the shocks). The part numbers you posted are much different then what I looked up on Camelback's Toyota listing. The site you linked (a different Camelback?) has a much better description pointing to exactly what I need. The left/right springs kind of threw me as MOOG lists them as a pair (not sure they are different). The Camelback list I had showed the left $40 cheaper than the right. Huh? Didn't make sense. Right, going with the 4600 series all around. I looked at FOX and Icon...Yikes!!

Here's the Camelback link that made me crazy: https://parts.camelbacktoyota.com/parts/2003/Toyota/Tacoma/Pre Runner/?siteid=214329&vehicleid=78973&diagram=8510190

Here's the MOOG springs mentioned but I'm feeling the love for the Toyota pups: https://www.shockwarehouse.com/site...e/Moog-81082-Front-Constant-Rate-Coil-Springs

Thanks again for the reply it really helped. And I have a new part look-up source!

No worries, glad to help a bit. Reach out directly to Gary (Gunny1005), contact info in his signature - reference this post - https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/gunny-is-back.476544/#post-14455058. He'll be able to confirm those are the correct coils. Awesome dude to deal with.

Yeah - again, I'd stick with the 4600s unless you wanted to change the ride height a bit with the 5100s.

Oh and if you are in AZ and close, I'd just drive over to Camelback lol.

Nice. Actually the truck is from AZ, I'm in Washington state. We get all crazy when no rust AZ and Cali cars show up here.

I called and Gary is on vacation 'till August. Cold calls to 'counter guys' can be off but the Camelback guy that picked up was very knowledgeable and helpful. Camelback has a new and old website where 'Parts Factory' is new and preferred. I thought Toyota had one master parts look-up (they control) as the diagrams and pricing seem pretty much the same across dealers. Not true, each provider has to provide their own database and availability info.

The part numbers you linked are correct. The left/right difference is due to torque from the engine. Who knew? The MOOG's are the same rate. Springs on order!

Note: They like to verify parts per the VIN. I thought VIN was for morons that can't enter the year/model correctly. Nope, they run the look-up through Toyota's data to check for superseded numbers locking in the original factory installed part.
