What Have You Done To Your 2nd Gen Tacoma Today?

Not an american made per say but an FCC type certified radio for sure.

The one you have is great for listening or scanning and in an emergency situation transmitting. BUT only in an emergency situation transmitting.

 

My paperwork/stickers/box for this radio has FCC stamps on it though. Must be a different certification?

 

Yeah, only difficult part was screwing it in since it’s tucked away a bit. All in all I think it took at most ten minutes to install.

 

You have to be careful with some of these cheap baofengs. Lots of foreign companies manufacture replicas and knock offs. Sell them as legitimate radios that are FCC certified. The box can say anything it wants the radio needs to have those same stamps of approval on them. Most of the time they are under the battery on the back of the radio (which can also be forged). Not saying you did buy a knock off or assuming anything I am just saying be careful with what you use it for. I did a bit of research into this because I have one of these cheap Baofengs as well and mine is stamped on the back of the radio, and I did some research into the seller and the product to ensure I was buying from a reputable source.

As a certified ham its against the rules to support non fcc regulated things and promote illegal use, however as a human I am saying do what you want its your radio just be careful. Definitely beat the research horse to death.

Look above I posted links, that statement doesn’t appear to be true. I feel personally attacked and I will file a formal complaint... and get it notarized by the FCC

 

At that point might as well hold out for the 80170 milestone.

 

I may be wrong on this and if someone knows better please correct me but isnt Part 90 cert only GMRS and part 95 cert MURS and FRS?

I would be lead to believe if that radio is only part 90 its not approved for MURS. What you originally said you were going to use it for.

 

I’m gonna do some fine line reading when I get home on the packet that came with my radio. The actual ad does show the FCC code that denotes it as legal to be used but all you hamNERDS have me thinking otherwise. I respect radio law but everything I keep finding is contrary to what I’ve read from a couple posts here. We shall see! Worst case I use it as emergency use only but best case “I use it to tell my friend that his truck looks so cool from behind as it crawls over rocks.” While we’re wheeling.

 

I think this is a good set up unless you plan to spend major $$$$. I see people spend a lot and I mean like 10k setting up their rigs for camping only to turn around and sell it all a year or so later

 

And I could be completely wrong on this and your radio is certed out for both. I did research into this about a year ago and I know new radios have come out since then and different models do different stuff. I would just be sure where the line is and know when to cross it if you choose to. The likelihood of the FCC doing anything is slim unless you are disrupting emergency services. So take it as a grain of salt. Your plans for it are probably not going to get you into any trouble but some hams take this stuff more seriously than others.

I honestly could not care what you do with your radios, your a free american to do what you want. Just wanted to be sure you were aware you could be crossing some lines and some people may have problems with that.

You can also go to the FCC website and search your specific radio and find what it’s been approved for. I did this a long time ago when I was looking up an import radio. It’s somewhere on the FCC site, probably can google FCC database and find the equipment directory or something along those lines.
