    Well it's that time.

Motorcycle helmet suggestions anyone? Full faced, narrow cheeks. Just need something light and cool. Willing to pay up to the point until the weight reduction / $ gets silly.

So I locked myself out of my truck last night at the Holyoke mall. left my windows cracked a couple inches, I was able to detach my windshield wiper and use it through the crack to pop the handle out enough to unlock the door. I felt like my own hero

Head shape is a factor. What works for me, may not work for you.
THAT being said, both of my current helmets are Bell. A Qualifier DLX, and a MX9 Adventure MIPS.
Happy with both. These are not the Bell helmets we used to sneer at years ago.

    Otherwise, Arai, and AGV.
Find a Cycle World, they usually have a great selection to try on, etc.

I just bought an LS2 helmet and I love it. Built in sunglasses! quick connect retention (so no d rings), vents which open and close, pinlock, and the shield locks down as well. My only complaint is the wind noise is louder than I am used to.

For sure. I know helmet wise I have a narrow oval face. I haven't had to buy one for so long that I don't remember the mfgs that tend to favor that shape.

    Looking at this one maybe

Those are pretty popular out west. Never wore one myself.

IIRC, Arai tends more on the long oval shape.

I've always bought HJC's; they fit my head comfortably and aren't too heavy. Obviously for under $350 you're not going to get a carbon fiber featherweight, but their standard helmets are decent

Further proof that locking your doors is absolutely pointless if your windows are down at all. :notsure:

For sure. That's that price point where $/gram gets a but ridiculous. If I can stay under 3.5 lbs ish I'll be happy. I've ran upper tier hjc and bell most of my life.

Yeah, an Arai CF would be awesome, but for something I've got to replace every few years...$2500 a pop was always too much for me.

Helmets need replacing every 5 years without even being dropped I think I read when looking for atv helmets? And if you drop them, they should be replaced! It's crazy, I guess keeping your head safe is important, but holy cow guys build something a little more sturdy!

Cleaned out the grease traps by hand this morning, easier then sucking it with a wet/dry vac and less mess. Weed whacked and blew after that and now I'm sitting on the deck for the morning. Gotta a few things I should be doing this afternoon, but gonna just relax for an hour or two here.

Iirc UV breakdown of the shell is the main reason. Same with helmets used for autocross/ track days etc...

So, if it stays inside all year and only comes outside when I'm riding, it should last longer?

That's not much of a factor any more. Mostly these days it's that the sweat from your head eventually starts breaking down the impact foam.

Depends on how much you sweat, lol. There are other factors, too, but the foam starts breaking down after a while even if you hardly ever wear it. :notsure:

Right, it's the foam that dries out from salt deposits and/or just age. Just like car tires are supposed to be replaced every 5 years no matter how much use they got.

My best helmet was an Arai but on the snow I use HJC because they are cheap and I seem to need a new one every 3 years.

So who is the guy who wants to make money selling $300 helmet humidifies to people with $2500 helmets? You give me an extra couples years out of a helmet and that earns its money back in a helmet or two.

Or is the question better phrased as.."who is the idiot who wants to take on the liability of claiming they can extend helmet life expectancies" :anonymous::rofl:
