    Hmm after owning several F150s with both the Coyote and 3.5L Ecoboost, yeah the Ecoboost kills the Coyote when geared the same and towing. It has way more torque down low and it feels more useable with better/quicker responses than the Coyote.

    The being said I’ve heard really good things about the Diesel F150s. They kind of killed any momentum though when in year one you couldn’t put the Diesel in the workhorse XLT trim line.

    I’d also take a Roush Coyote over an Ecoboost... I wish Ford would just drop the Voodoo into the F150. Small problems though.

    Anywho the 3rd gen needs help and hopefully someone makes a good reliable kit for it one day.

    I’ve ran into a few people with those loud ricer cookers. Usually I throw one neutral rev and they stop which I find hilarious. They don’t even try after that.

    Yep! Looks like something I’ll have to consider. Is it still worth doing even if I change my belt to a smaller one?
    I’m changing my fuel pump on Saturday to a walbro 255lph. I bloody hoping that fixes the issue of no boost after 3000rpm.

    This right here. The AFR gauge is everything.

    It has helped me in tracking a very recent lean under WOT that the PCM has not picked up yet. After checking for dirty fuel trims under all circumstances of driving and using the AFR gauge as an immediate reference I found that I am indeed lean. Had I not had an AFR gauge, however, I would had been running this way for a long time and ultimately fried my catalytic converter because of it.

    It also helps me figure out if fuel cut off is due to low fuel in the tank or if it due to something else when it happens. It's always low fuel but my point is with boost you gotta be proactive in making sure you protect your engine.

    Can't speak for everyone, but I installed Boost & AFR gauges (boost is fully functional and all wiring is complete, bung for WB sensor scheduled to be welded-in tomorrow) and stepped down to a 2.5" pulley. :burnrubber:

    You need to make the leap from OVT to HPT... :deadhorse:

    Nice man.....did I send you my little write up I had from my gauge install? I know I’ve sent it to a few people in the past. You went to a 2.5 ....from 2.7 right?

    HP, I know I know. I do see myself at some point having it tuned into my truck. I just don’t see me doing the tuning. I think I may have found a shop that deals in HP, now I have to see if they are familiar with tuning Toyotas.

    I still have to get the ball rolling on my pulley wrap, 2.7 pulley, and whatever else in need for that mod.

    Thanks! Yes - You kindly shared your helpful writeup with me. (Thanks, again!) Yes - I migrated from OEM 3.0" to Smoothflow 2.7" (6+ psi of boost @ WOT, despite 6K+ ft of elevation where I live/drive) and, now, to Smoothflow 2.5" (7+ psi @ WOT).

    You CAN do the tuning with HPT, but you don't NEED to, and there's LOTS of help available here and in the HPT thread.

    I don't know all the details of your setup but, in my experience, 2.7" runs fine with nothing more than Roost's Pulley Wrap Mod, which is EASY to install at the same time you change the pulley. (If you haven't already installed a quickchange hub, you'll need a pulley puller, snout cutter, and pulley press tool (several of which are making their rounds in this thread).

    You're not alone with tuning. The fpr mod comprises nothing and it's easily reversed.

    Cutting is easier than you think. FPR is not required - I ran without it until I installed my Boost gauge.

    Don't be paranoid - When I have time, I intend to wade into the self-tuning arena, but I have yet to tune anything myself and things are running just fine. To date, my use of HPT has been like (a more responsive version of) OVT - retrieve ECU tune code, send to tuning guru, receive updated/custom tune via email, load updated/custom tune via easily followed instructions, drive and enjoy...

    You know, in the grand scheme of things, tuning support for the 1GR absolutely sucks compared to other platforms. No MAP sensor doesn't make it easier to properly tune for boost, either.

    TRD Tune - bombproof but rich AF
    UCON - piggyback with expandability but plenty of imperfections
    OV Tune - recalibrates an ECU, but can't reflash the entire thing. Support is slow sometimes
    HP Tune - new to Toyota, shows potential but also can't reflash?
    Bullydog - LOL?

    Am I missing any?
