I’ve read or skimmed almost all of the DOME LED posts and am still confused. About two weeks ago I exchanged all the interior bulbs to LED (map, rear seat dome and both vanity mirrors- total of 7 bulbs) OK I’ve got a 2016 Tacoma Off Road 4 door I just made the first payment and still have temps on it so I’ve got no real history.

Everything was great then last Saturday after a BBQ in the park with friends I noticed the interior lights were all out. I checked the switches and everything ok so I pulled the fuse (7.5 amp under the dash) and it was blown. Ok I’ve blown fuses before, no big deal, I replaced the fuse and turned the lights back on - they were off with the ceiling switches. Every came on. Closed the door they went out. Opened the door, still out. Pulled the fuse and it’s blown.

Only thing to note was during the BBQ it was raining, not a heavy rain just a nice rain that cooled off the 90 degree day. Not the first rainy day since I bought it but the longest it’s set in the rain.

So, is there an issue of swapping out to LEDs? Is there a fix? It’s really dark in there with the normal bulbs.

Oh if this has been covered please give me the link as I can’t find it.

    Thanks

On the whole LED’s pull less power than incandescent. I’ve replaced all my OEM lamps (except headlights and turn signals), with LED. My guess you have a defective LED lamp. Suggest you reinstall the OEM lamps a few at a time until you find the offending LED lamp.

PS: I’m assuming the LED lamps are reasonable replacements and not off the wall.

OK - was going to try something like that, once it cools off. Probably only need to pull the 3 overhead bulbs as those are the only ones the come on when the doors open, you agree?

    BTW nice build

Swapped back to the old bulbs, now the lights only shut off when the switch is off. Saw a thread on that, I think.

    Thanks

Quick recap- swapped out OEM interior bulbs with LED. Worked for a few weeks. Parked the truck in a long rain storm for the first time. LEDs did not light on opening the door. Discovered the dome fuse blown. Replaced it and lights came on. Closed door. Reopened door popped fuse again. Exchanged fuse again, popped again.

Put back old bulbs with new fuse. Lights work again. Go on but it takes about 20 minutes for them to shut off on their own. Flipping the switch between ON and DOOR they are brighter on ON. They do shut off in the off position.

So does anyone know what the timer circuit is for the normal 60 second delay for them to shut down? Is it a resistor/capacitor timer or other? If it’s computer controlled anyone home how to changed it? Just thoughts and questions

On my 2019 SR5 the off time is adjusted with the head unit setup menu. I only remember seeing 3 options:

Instant Off, 15 second delay, and 30 second delay.

Thank you for the reply, ended up going to dealer and they said some circuit had blown, no reason why but it was still under warranty so they fixed it. Now I’m afraid the next rain storm same problem but I asked about that and they weren’t worried. So far so good.
