My new to me 98 Tacoma came pretty loaded according to the VIN lookup. What did the All Weather Guard Package include? Maybe extra protection to the frame?

The truck was brought over to Hawaii from the mainland about 3 years ago. Not sure what state. While the frame has typical surface rust coloration, there doesn’t seem to be any bad rusting to the frame. But the top of the original muffler is rusted a 2” hole in it. The passenger side shock area seems just fine. I understand that’s a favorite spot for rust. Maybe a good power wash and some anti rust paint will make it look almost new.

I don’t really have anything to compare them to. But on the very bottom side it is like orange peel texture. If that’s what you are asking. They sound solid when tapping on them. The frame itself doesn’t appear to have anything like undercoating on it. At least not the stuff from a can that has that heavy texture.

I “think” the package included a heavier duty alternator and bigger battery, or someone mentioned that for the colder northeast states. It was only a $79 package at that time. But I also think it was a package that was included with another package. I’d just like to know for myself.

Do you mean the Cold Weather Package?

That came on some 5-Lugs, and I believe all PreRunners/4x4’s. What it included was a stronger starter, alternator, different washer reservoir, and different windshield weatherstripping.

i must be thinking of something different then, mine (whatever it was called) was nowhere near $79 iirc
it would be a dealer add-on item

Here is a screen shot of the packages and costs per Cars.com As you can see, under the weather package it doesn’t list what that package gets you.

Type your VIN into the Toyota Owner’s website. It’ll probably call it the Cold Weather Package.

Here is a copy of my vehicles packages and options. Still not sure about the All Weather Guard Equip pack. But it’s there, whatever that $70 bought the original owner.

I’ve never heard of the all weather package. My truck has the cold weather package.

In the late 80's and very beginning of the 90's I used to sell new Toyota's. At that time the All Weather Guard Package was something they tacked on for all vehicles in the Northeast cold weather climates. I could be wrong but I seem to recall that it was just a slightly more robust starter. It was a package that was standard on almost all Toyota Vehicles, not just the Tacoma.

Found some more information for you:

According to this link it included:

    All Weather Guard Package :
    Heavy Duty Battery
    Heavy Duty Starter
    Heavy Duty Window Wiper Motor
    Large Window Wiper Reservoir

Also, check out this thread for some pictures of original price stickers.

It’s rare to find a truck not equipped with the cold weather package. Only the base models didn’t come with it.

I am no expert, I just play one on TV. But I can throw out some speculation. $70 for a better battery, starter, wiper motor and larger wiper reservoir is cheap! My guess is that at some point someone woke up and thought of a way they could make a bit more money. So they made some stuff standard then changed the name to a Cold Weather Package so they could charge more money. But the All Weather Guard Package and the Cold Weather Package were two different packages.

I noticed only the 5-lug trucks would come with the standard package, I’ve yet to see a PreRunner or 4x4 come without it.

I bet the "all weather package" was just floormats.

I'll have to dig up the window sticker, if I still have it for my '17 4Runner, but it has the all weather floormats, and $70 sounds about right for something like that... But floormats also aren't a factory installed item, likely not even port installed.

Well crap. Used truck didn’t come with floor mats but carpet look new. PO must have had them but kept them. No mud flaps but I would have taken them off anyway. And he told me wiper fluid tank cracked and he took it out so that’s not there. But the thing cranks over great and the wipers fly across the windshield. Not a total waste for me. LOL

I'm glad to hear that you bought the truck to Hawaii. Get some nice Weathertech floor mats, replace the missing wiper fluid tank, power wash the bottom of the truck, put some kind of undercoating on the bottom of the truck, and enjoy the truck for what it is.
