Supercharged Tacos are nowhere near the 5.7Ls power numbers...they're much closer to the 4.6L, which is why I would LOVE to have it in this truck.

Built motors with S/Cs are producing 5.7L like numbers, but....they're built. And I guarantee you stock components will NOT last as long in those applications as they do with the 4.0.

No, i went from a full size to a mid size truck for gas miliage. I had no use for a V-8 because i dont tow much shit (not saying the taco can't tow). It would be impratical and how the economy is now and gas prices they wouldn't sell many of them.

Me thinks the additional 75+lbs of curb weight would offset the
    power gains...

On the other hand, I would still buy one :D

The new 4.6 V8 sounds like a much better option over the 4.7, though this thread was started before the 4.6 came out.

I was kind of irked when I saw the 4.6 Tundra gets better mileage and more power than the 4.0L Tacoma. If it were available in the Tacoma I would only consider it if it had a manual transmission option which it never will...

Maybe around this time next year we'll finally see if the V8 Taco is a possibility? My money is betting against.

Some interesting info on the 4.6; http://www.fourwheeler.com/roadtests/129_0908_2010_toyota_tundra_v8_engine_review/index.html

    Are we building drag trucks?

Unless there was some sure-fire way to do it and improve MPG there's no reason to. I agree that if you need more torque for towing you should consider the Tundra anyway.

Has anyone modded a 4.7L into the Taco yet? If the 4-Runner and Tacoma share frames wouldn't it be pretty straightforward?

The only V8 I would want in a Tacoma is a small block Ford.

It can be tuned for massive HP and TQ...and has THE sweetest exhaust note in the business.

Alot of good points here. I just traded in a V8 truck and would have opted for it in my other truck considerations (ie Dakota and Colorado) but in the end I didnt want to commit to paying more in gas and environmental tax (we pay a displacement tax for anything over 4.0L).

If you really want the V8 for speed, you cant race a double cab, get a sports truck, car or bike for speed.

If you tow more I can see your point opt for it.

But for us reg guys who haul once in a while, and if you get 5 people and gear in your truck, 236HP aint bad. Thats V8 power from a few years ago.

I really came close to buying a Dodge Ram quad cabwith the HEMI because it had the MDS system. A friend owns a 2010 and gets 25MPG. WTF better mileage on a bigger more capable truck?!? Thos only reason I didnt buy it was because of its over all size. toow ide to fit in the garage with the other car and it fills a parking space pretty quick. I could have had one for almost $10K cheaper too.

In a few years youll be sorry you have something that gets anything less than 25MPG.

I know the numbers aren't that impressive, but I love the smooth linear torquey power of the 4.7 in our Sequioa, and I'd hazard to guess that in the much lighter Taco the fuel economy would perhaps exceed the 4.0.

i borrowed my sisters 03 4runner with the 4.7 way quicker than my 3.4 even though its on such a heavier car and it sounds amazing i think i went through half a tank just listening to it ;) it probably isnt necessary but it would be a nice option...i would spring for it

I did it again. Got tired of paying truck payments and gas and traded in for a 2015 Honda Accord Sport since I enjoyed my 2013 Sport so much.
Fuel economy while cruising would probably be better with a V8.

It sure is better in my parent's 05 Tahoe. That V8 gets better fuel mileage on the highway than my Tacoma.

Case in point, on my road trip to the Grand Canyon, Las Vegas, and back to Texas, I never got more than 20mpg. This is keeping with the speed limit in those states with cruise control(75 in AZ and NM). Just me, girlfriend, and luggage for two of us for a week and a half.

That's what daily drivers are for.

Trucks and performance cars should continue to be gas-swilling hogs with gobs of power.

So what are you saying? People that routinely haul more than what fits in a fuel efficient Corolla need to have both the car and the truck? Meaning 2 potential auto payments, 2 vehicles to maintain (oil, tires, etc), 2 vehicles to insure, 2 vehicles to register and inspect instead of 1 vehicle that hauls what they need and gets decent gas mileage? That's fucking stupid.

Ya, I wish my truck could fly and run on air! Shut the hell up! You sound like one of those Obama voters. Guys like you really upset me. Can you tell? Stick to the subject. It's "V8 Tacoma", not "Electric Tacoma"! :annoyed:

Pay to play. At least here in the US.

In other countries, where sanity is prevailing, laws allow for small diesels that make much more economic and "environmental" sense for people in the situation you're describing.

I had a Dakota prior to the Taco with the 4.7L V8.The Dakota had about the same HP with 40lbs more torque. The tacoma actually tows better. I think the difference is the 5 speed auto with the 3.73 rear end vs the 4 speed auto with a 3.55 rear in the dakota.
