A recent trend shows an uptick in mid-afternoon use, however, it is inconsistent.

So true. I once had a CQ shift following a drive-by in the barracks parking lot.

Found out today I'm moving to Austin for work. Never been. Any good camping / wheeling? I've heard things like that you have to pay for everywhere since it's mostly privately owned? Is that accurate?

Yep, but generally the wheeling and camping is cheap. There's a great wheeling park called Hidden Falls Adventure Park, which has available camping as well as trails to wheel on. There are several parks scattered around Texas.

Tons of good camping spots. And yes, basically everything is private. Hidden Falls is the closest closest option at 45 min away. You can camp there as well.

Hmmm never thought something I would miss about CA is BLM land! haha

CA is terrible at land management though so I'm sure private land is better. Glad to hear it is cheap!

People that go there more than me will chime in for you.

What business is bringing you to our fair city? As yet another "refugee" (one of the kinder terms used) it's usually the tech industry. We have peeps all over town, and each part has its pros and cons. You'll find that people often get stuck in the part of town they live in because of traffic difficulties. Then again, I work with folks who think nothing of an hour-long commute at 25 MPH (on the interstate).

Depending on where your work is, there are homes for sale in my area that are going for below market (we think it's finally peaked), but it you're buying - BUY QUICK. Our housing market is insane. If you want new, it's either going to be a tiny townhouse with a one-car garage and no driveway, or you're going to be on the outskirts just out of town and driving everywhere. There's a lot more space up north in Pflugerville, Leander, and Round Rock, and again down south in Kyle and Buda, but they all depend on frustration management to get anywhere (IH-35 is a parking lot, and the toll roads add up).
Oh, yeah, you're going to fit in VERY well with us. We meet regularly, and in large numbers. Food and "beverages" are usually involved. We are an active and extremely friendly lot (you may have heard of "The Chad"), and look forward to adding you to our numbers. I'll put you on "the list" and we'll definitely keep an eye out for you at a future meet.
