Thanks for the reminder. I like your avatar!

By the way, for those who didn't get the ECGS memo on gear oil, you can find it here.

For those thinking about price and type of gears, here's my experience so far: $3,892.47 and about 7.5 weeks out.

ECGS said they're the same gears as Nitro. "We use our brand gear which is same brand as Nitro."

    • Using ECGS 4:88's 3rds (front +$650 and rear +$850 E-locker) and ARB locker (front +$875), I'm at $2,375 (not including the $1,500 refundable core charge, so $3,875 up front),
    • Plus, $700 install fee,
    • The ARB compressor (dual) and accessories (ARB air-up kit and manifold) were an additional $555 from ECGS,
    • Another $70 for extra gear oil (500-mile flush),
    • So, $3,700 (with ARB locker up front plus aforementioned accessories, installed),
    • In addition, the ARB 1-gallon tank and mounting bracket from M.O.R.E. were $282.47.
    • For a total weighing in at $3982.47 turn-key for 4:88 Gears, Install, Oil, Dual Compressor, Mounting Bracket, 1 Gallon ARB air tank, Manifold, and Air-up inflation kit.
    • Alternatively, without the ARB locker (and all accessories), it would have been $2,270 installed.

At some point, I'll need a speedo healer too!

Are you re-gearing something that’s not a TRD OR?

It is an OR with the locker in the rear. Yup, ARB up Front (fully locked).

Locker switch comes with the locker. Patiently keeping a spot open in my cubby... (parts arrive on Tuesday, order date was 6/6/19, about 7.5 weeks total wait time from ECGS)

Yup made that mistake while breaking in the gears for 500 miles. Luckily I took it really easy on the break in process by only driving 60 or below. Pissed off a lot of people on the freeway but no damage to the gears.Went with the heavy duty oil ECGS recommended when I changed the oil after 700 miles and all the whining noise went away. Drove the truck a little longer on the break in process because I was trying to break in the front gears as well since I have a SR5 4x4.

Tacoma aficionado's, it is my pleasure that after months of lurking through this thread and multiple other 488 threads I will at long last have my 488's installed at the end of the month! I purchased a set of NITRO 488's from SDHQ with the REM micro polish. my truck is a 2013 DCSB TRD OR with a TOYTEC 3" lift on VTX TERRA 16's wrapped in 285 BFG KBRO's. currently running a scanguage 2. other upcoming mod with the gears is gonna be a Hypertech in line calibration unit. that's pretty much it for now! after reading everyones reviews I'm really excited so see how they perform!

yeah, my big thing was I don't have the time to do the proper break in and after months of research I opted to do the micro polish. I mean, I'm already into this project for at least 1100.00 why not just pay the extra 250 and get it done.

That was my stance, which is why I got rem. I used the Lucas 85w-140 and have zero diff whine. Use the 85w-140 weight for those gears

that was the way I was gonna go. I'm also gonna do a transmission fluid flush when I take it back for the 500 mile fluid change. I'm not sure on the intervals for the transmission fluid on how frequently youre actually supposed to change it according to Toyota.

30-60k for tranny fluid change depending on amount you tow and what not. I tend to do around 50k and so far so good

that sounds reasonable. I cant recall my exact mileage when I got the tranny flushed, probably around the 20k mark now but since I like throwing money at my truck ill do it again so I can actually effectively track it.

The first transmission flush I had the dealer do was the entire 12qts. Not sure I will do that again because it was like $230 and I had a trustworthy source at the dealer. Supposedly you only need to change the 3qts that sit in the pan for future changes...not sure what to believe

having a trustworthy source always help. ive been a customer at my buddys speed shop since hes opened it, and he has exclusively worked on mine and my wife's vehicles. he did my lift and tires and all of the maintenance on my truck outside of me doing my own oil changes. he'll be doing my gears also. I always make it a point to thank him for being an honest businessman and not trying to mislead us or overcharge us lol. good help is hard to find lol

Just curious why you guys aren’t using Yukon Gears? They are considered the best in Jeep Land.
