There are a large variety of FCC certifications that a radio can obtain. Every receiver and every electronic device in the U.S. must pass FCC part 15. If you look at the back of your TV, it probably states that it's compliant with FCC part 15. Part 15 has a variety of stipulations. Baofengs comply with FCC part 15, and many people then assume that means "Baofengs are FCC compliant." They're compliant with part 15, but not necessarily with other FCC Parts. The paperwork and stamps that came with your radio are likely claiming part 15 compliance. Lacking part 15 compliance, they could be turned away at the border.

It's also possible that the documents and stamps are claiming part 90 compliance. You posted photos of the FCC type certification. That type certification is clearly indicating Part 90. Not Part 95. The radio indicated in the type certification was type certified for use in Part 90. Which is licensed operation only. You must have some type of license to use any Part 90 radio, and then the radio may only be used on the frequency(s) specified in the license. The certifications that you posted never indicated any part 95 certification, therefore you may not (legally) use the radio in any of the Part 95 services. (FRS, GMRS, MURS, etc). Only radios that are certificated specifically for Part 95 may be used in the Part 95 frequency allocations.

While the BF-5R radios did receive FCC type certification for Part 90, it's highly unlikely that is what you have. I saw the Amazon listing screen shot that you posted, claiming that the radio is a BF-5R and claiming it's certificated and legal for use in Part 90. This particular radio certification has been fraudulently printed for a large variety of radios. Part 90 certification requires that the user may not directly enter a frequency on the front panel of the radio. If a radio allows a "VFO mode" or direct frequency entry, then the radio may not be utilized in part 90, regardless of licensing. Many hams modify their ham radios so they may be used in Part 90 (or Part 95) frequency allocations. this is also illegal. Baofeng makes a UV-82C that prevents direct frequency entry. This one is (or was at one time) certificated for Part 90.

This advisory is targeted directly at Baofeng and other similar transceivers that permit direct frequency entry and permit the radio to transmit in Part 90 (police, fire, commercial two way, etc). It's also targeted at any radio that persmits "wide" operation in Part 90. A few years ago, all part 90 users were required to narrowband. This meant changing from 5 kHz FM deviation to 2.5 kHz FM deviation. Radios that are capable of operating on 5 kHz FM deviation are no longer permitted in Part 90 at all.

The baofeng that you have has two settings: "narrow" and "wide". In theory, the "narrow" should be 2.5 kHz of FM deviation, which would keep the radio from exceeding a 12.5 kHz channel. The "wide" should be 5 kHz of FM deviation, which would keep the radio from exceeding a 25 kHz channel. That's the theory, I can tell you from testing experience that the Baofengs often over deviate. Which can cause clipping. The narrow setting will allow the radio to operate correctly on MURS channels 1, 2, and 3, but it's too narrow for channels 4 & 5. The wide setting is much too wide to operate correctly on MURS channel 4 & 5. Very few radios even offer a 4 kHz FM deviation setting, which limits the radio to a 20 kHz channel width. This is yet another reason that MURS radios must be type certificated specifically to be utilized on MURS. It's very technical stuff, that most people don't care to even consider or have a working knowledge.

you do not need an "american made" transceiver. You only need to use a transceiver that was specifically type accepted for MURS. MURS is a subsection of Part 95. Part 95 includes FRS, GMRS and CB radio, as well as others. I believe Baofeng offers a type certificated MURS radio:

Love the idea of the overhead rack. However, if you get into an accident with a kid sitting under it what is the possibility of their arms flying up and hitting it. There are a lot of edges on that rack...risky.

We are thinking about trading in our 5th gen 4runner, so I took the weather-tech floor mats out to see if they would fit in my 2nd gen taco. The passenger side fits perfectly. The drivers side will need a little trimming near the clutch. Weather-tech doesn't make front floor mats for the 6-spd manuals (Liability due to the clutch??). There are people who buy the Auto version mats and then trim them for the clutch. I think I may save some money and use these instead.

On the scale of good ideas to bad ideas this ones a bad idea. I wouldn’t put one of these in a vehicle unless my back seats never had passengers. Safety concerns aren’t worth the “tacticool” storage.

I agree with this. Has anyone made an expandable attic for the 2nd gen roof? I have thought about this and it would be nice to have something expand so you can shove a jacket over the back seat area when you have dogs in the back.

Did these a minute ago but did the full stoptech/TRD brake upgrade with new calipers and picked up a Bestop from one of the other members here. Gotta swap some zippers out but it's nice having some coverage without all the weight
