Unless you know a guy 20% on the driver's and pass front windows is illegal. Even if you pass inspection if you run into a statie with a tint meter you'll get a fix it ticket

Get ceramic whatever you choose. I like Suntek CIR or CXP for a bit cheaper option. Also get 70% CIR on the windshield. You’ll thank me later. It’s light enough you nor no one else will know it’s there but blocks a TON of heat.

We have CIR on every piece of glass on our GX460 and you can’t feel the sun at all even in the middle of summer. A/C gets nice and chilly too.

I have CXP 20% on my truck and 50% CIR on the windshield. Love it!

Or Bull and Beggar on Monday nights. It’s kind of a fancy pantsy place but their burger night is made with filets mignon. $10.00 gets you a double burger with fries. If your feeling like you really want to step it up order the fatty duck liver dip for an appetizer. You’ll be talking about it for a month.

That sucks! I had just read a thread on Overland Bound and I heard Richland Rd is a State Rd. Anything branching off of it is private property?

Richland is completely private now. If you don’t live off that road you’re subject to getting a ticket at best, your shit towed at worst

This was around 5 years ago. Coming up 52 into Winston hauling ass about 85-90 in my race red ‘13 GT with full exhaust.

He didn’t say shit about my speed, was only concerned with the window tint o_O

@JackieMoon510 & @Queen Hatchet Where do you want to go? Linville (upper Pisgah) and Brevard (lower Pisgah) have plenty of great camping spots off the FSR’s. Jackson and Swaim county in Nantahala are fun too. Check the Forest Service Interactive Map and filter for OHV >50”. That’ll provide the right info for backcountry routes with less people.
If you’re near AVL, the Georgia Traverse makes for a good long weekend trip or simply the sections Between Hiawasee and Rosman . Hurricane Creek is a bit overrated IMO but that’s because it’s so well known that it’s not that wild anymore. That said, it’s still a hell of a lot of fun. Soaked and cold camping is always better than the couch.
If you want data or a meet up, message me. I went to school in Cullowhee (same as my outdoorsy folks), so I’ve driven, hiked, paddled, and peddled all over Lower Appalachia.

Do you know of anything in the NW part of the state? I'll be in Jefferson (North of Boone) later this summer and looking for somewhere offroad.

@BARDENC Sure! But I am going to give you three potential areas within 75min of West Jefferson since West Jefferson itself is already 30min from anything.

NORTH: Drive to Troutdale, VA and turn down 603 towards Konnarock and Damascus. FSR613 is an unmaintained (natural material) road that takes you to to Scales Campground. Its not difficult at all but it gets you off the beaten path and there is a wealth of great hiking trails, scenic views, and wild ponies to explore from the 'corral'. This area is in the Mount Rogers NRA & GWNF.

WEST: Drive towards Mountain City and take the FSR's South towards Watauga Lake and US321. From there, you can continue on FSR's towards US19E and take HWY143 up to Roan Mountain. As an alternative to the crowds at Roan, you could take the FSR's up to Unaka Mountain and a place called "Beauty Spot". It is a well-deserved name.

SOUTH: Drive towards Blowing Rock and take the Blue Ridge Parkway south to Edgemont Rd (Wilson's Creek NWA) or countinue on to Linville Gorge NWA. Linville Gorge can be accessed from two sides. On the Eastern half, HWY181 (Sunset Side) has several FSR's that connect. Alternatively, you can take Old HWY105 (West Side) which is a 17mi gravel road running the length of the Gorge. If you make it out to Linville Gorge, don't forget to stop at Louise's Restaurant off HWY221.

For specific road conditions and route planning, I would go here: https://www.fs.fed.us/ivm/index.html and filter by 'OHV >50in'. All available FSR's will be displayed with clickable info on difficulty and status. That'll give you the freedom to plan a route appropriate to you (read: significant other who doesn't like driving in the woods).

I hope this helps point you in the right direction and have a great vacation. If you need help with finding hiking trails or camp sites, let me know.
