Got into an accident two weeks ago. I was driving through the night to get to my home in NC, 10 hours on the road, and then literally two minutes from my house an SUV pulls out in front of me and hits the passenger side.

Besides the body panels they dented the rock slider and destroyed the rear wheel and tire. It looks like the rock slider actually absorbed a lot of the impact which was a blessing. No one was hurt.

Truck is in the shop now with insurance taking care of it. Total damage is $4,800.

Dang it that's a bummer. They covering the slider damage? Just curious, glad you're alright.

They are, but I decided to take a check for it and am just going to leave it on for now. I'm ok with a few battle scars haha.

Also I had the tire insured through discount tire so I'm going to take care of that myself along with the wheel and I'll get a check for $1200.

Glad to hear no one was hurt. So frustrating when that happens after a long drive and right by your house.

It was a smaller Isuzu. Says she didn't see me which was strange because I saw here looking straight at me as I was approaching, but the sun was behind me so who knows.

Whew! I thought this was going to be another "totaled too soon" thread. Glad to see they're fixing it, and you're okay.

It's funny you say that because when I told my insurance about it initially they estimated that it would be a total loss and I was so confused, never had to deal with insurance before in an accident and I assumed for it to be totaled it would have to be completely destroyed, like something major. And then everyone was recommending I just get a new truck and I got sorta pissed, I guess I am attached to my truck more than I thought haha.

When my Taco got rear ended last year I was praying they wouldn't total it.
I'm old school and want to keep my truck forever. :burnrubber:

really ? so, attorneys work for free ? truck is slightly wrinkled, the dude is not in a wheelchair. once a truck rolls off the dealer lot with a tag it is USED.

Not everyone is out to take things to court for everything they're worth.

it’s funny (and scary) that you guys don’t think bodily injury from an auto accident can’t take years to arise. then who get to pay for the medical costs once the sol has expired? read my title. i deal with this every day. a good attorney will get you money for property damage and bodily injury that are present, and may occur in the future.

You may want the shop to double check the frame. I'm surprised that the frame wasn't tweaked since the sliders are mounted to them.

But you do realize if EVERYONE took insurance companies to court for bodily injuries that "may occur in the future" (which would literally be in EVERY accident) none of us would be able to afford insurance. Sounds like a good game plan.

While you are correct injuries from auto accidents can take years to come out... you can’t sue people for injuries you don’t have. If there are no signs of injury prior to the SOL (statute of limitations), you are SOL.

Attorneys don’t take auto cases with no personal injury worth a substantial amount of money.

As long as the OP is not hurt hes only looking for property damages worth $4,800. No lawyer needed and one would never take the case anyways.
