    alright, stupid hose ?? here

I was curious if anyone knows if a new OEM rubber hose would come form fitted or straight and bendable like the silicone

I replaced one yesterday that was curvy S shaped and had to bend the new one to fit
was the original rubber hose straight to begin with and then just held and 'froze' its shape over 2 decades of not moving?

this one was a very tight pinch after redoing with the proper sized hose
i suppose spraying wd40 on the new hose would've made it slicker and easier to slide into there

    3.jpg

the other hose under there must be specific to what you got going on inside, because I don't think I have another hose tie-wrapped to mine here

Hey Jay, they come form fitted. I've replaced a couple of them with OEM parts, and they came preformed.

    Good idea to replace these
My truck failed visual portion of smog test for a cracked hose. Luckily I was able to cut it short with a razor and reattach to pass.

You in Cali? Does anywhere else do a visual check of the smog stuff? Besides Cali? Never had anyone go looking through engine bay for cracked hoses and stuff like that. You'd think if it passes the emission test than good to go? That's kinda weird. Or maybe normal I dunno. Just never seen the shops look for that kind of stuff

I had a fail on mine a few years ago in CA for the same thing. I was only back in town for a few days (college) and didn’t have time to reschedule and fix it myself. Ended up having to pay $70 for a new line and another SMOG test on top of that.

Moved to AZ since then and man what a difference lol

Bought a set from the same firm a couple years ago - exactly for the 5VZ-FE. Recently sold with 313K miles. They had approximately 100K oon them and looked like the day I installed them. I can recommend unequivocally, they're excellent and should never rot.

Yea was Cali - any reputable smog shop should check visual. It's great because I would never have noticed it. If I took it to a sleezy shop they would have passed it and motor would not be running as toyota intended it to

Yeah well that's on you. If you need a shop to find that stuff, great. I'm just wondering if California is the only state that inspects that stuff even if your emissions tests okay. They prolly do. It's just wierd, meeting that emission measurement standard isn't enough? I dunno, I'm talking out my ass kinda, I don't know near enough about their visual 'testing'(lmao). I'll shut up

yea sadly I don't inspect each hose connection of my engine bay as frequently as I should. Actually that's why I got a toyota tacoma, so I don't have to check each fitting and component on a regular basis. If you want to do that, that's on you.

I'm not familiar with other state requirements - maybe you should check with your local smog shop - or is it the sleezier shop the better?
auto company's spend millions of dollars every year in r&d to design motors and systems for some reason, right? - seems like they should function properly

Also China and most parts of Asia don't have smog requirements either. If your into that move there.

I'm familiar with local emissions testing. Here they just check the OBD2 system. When I lived in Washington there wasn't any emmisions testing, in Kitsap County at least. I see you're in Cali now and you have that testing, I was asking about others but I guess I quoted you so thanks for your suggestions. Nanny states are good for some people. I'm not saying they're not.

Anyone know if this is good for a 2.7L too? Intakes are definitely different, just wanted to see if anyone had tried it.

I love road tripping as well. Washington and Oregon are beautiful places to visit. Tacoma has some slums and many view it as kinda ghetto but all in all I had no complaints about Tacoma. Have a couple real good friends still there

thanks for sharing Elijah, California is great because I'm not capable of taking care of myself or others around me.
I need the government to interfere with every aspect of my life. This is the only reason I reside in Cali.

Aside from nearly all advanced aerospace weapons and defense, and all next generation tech researched and developed in Cali, us nanny state folk praise you and your heroic contribution to the states. You're the hero we need but don't deserve, Elijah.

They do that here as well. I haven't had them do an actual tailpipe emission test in - hell, I can't remember the last time.

They check the computer and do a visual check to look for any obvious aftermarket/offroad non-compliant mods. For the most part, takes a few minutes and done. When I replaced the exhaust manifold CAT on my wife's vehicle, they spent quite a bit more time. Put the car on the lift so they could verify the CARB CODE/# stamped on the CAT.

    This is for CA:

    28. What are the elements of a Smog Check?
Smog Checks are designed to measure the amount and type of pollutants your vehicle is emitting. A Smog Check may include any of the following tests:

    • Visual inspection of emission control components and systems
    • Functional inspection of the vehicle's check engine light, ignition timing, exhaust gas recirculation system, fuel evaporative system, and gas cap
    • Functional inspection of the vehicle's On-Board Diagnostic (OBD) system
    • Tailpipe emissions inspection
