For a lot of people I think it's the look, I honestly think most people out there with 2wd TRD ORs don't even realize they have a rear locker, or if they do they don't even really know what it does or will ever really use it. It's the idea of an "Offroad" package they're sold on, and they don't consider the 4x4's because they probably have never needed one in the past. Or don't like the extra few grand $ it costs to get the 4wd.

Since the 3rd gen came out it seems like every other one is 4x4 though out here, before that I feel like I hardly saw any 4x4 Tacomas...2/3s of them were Prerunners or 5 lugs. The "overlanding" trend caught on fast and Toyota is really using it to sell these things now

My regret so far is not asking the dealer to track me one down with the Premium Package.

as for staying on topic, I wish I had put 285s on it instead of the 265s i have. Now I'm just wishing I had 285s, and can't spring for them right now.

So far? Installing the ARB Summit bumper myself. It’s on fine and looks fantastic, but I cut the stock bumper on the right a bit too high and the gap is more noticeable compared to the left side.

It’s no big deal and I don’t notice it most of the time, but it’s the worst so far.

Went in to look at them and request an AC 6spd TRDOR, walked out with a DCLB TRDOR. I really love my truck but I'm still kicking myself for letting them sell me on a truck I really didn't want at first.

I've heard the ARB bumper is a bear to install by yourself - but hey, if an uneven cut was the worst of it, sounds like you came out ahead.

There's a lot of states where you really don't need 4x4 for weather or most off-roading. The 2WD OR gets you the extra TRD OR features, style and a locker without the extra cost of the 4X4.

It's not a bad option but I wish they would do something with the name/branding to separate it from the 4X4.

My worst decision is continuously going to the same dealership for warranty work. The service manager is a dick despite the service advisors people lovely people and the shop doing good work. The only catch? I live 150km away from any other dealerships.

My buddy thought the locker button meant he had 4 wheel drive......until he got stuck and his front tires didnt move.

There was a thread on here (or maybe yotatech) a long time ago where someone bought a used Prerunner not realizing that Toyota made 2wd 6lug Tacomas and didn't realize it wasn't 4x4 until afterward. Was both hilarious and sad

Yeah I remember they made some 2wd Jeep Wranglers for a little while lol. I mean a Wrangler? That's the quintessential 4wd vehicle in the States, why on earth would they make a 2wd version of that haha.

My friend uses his 2wd to load and unload his boat on a slick boat ramp. The locker does help when hes getting wheel slip. Thats an example of the need for a locker and 2wd. He doesnt go much offroad with his truck though. (I have a 4wd and locker. Wouldnt want a truck without it personally)

I left it in the driveway when we got golf ball sized hail. It's made out of super thin crap metal so... it's got 400 dents in the hood, roof and a few on the flare outs on both fenders and the bed sides.

On the plus side... I give zero f**ks now whether anything else happens to it so I don't even slow down for branches sticking out in the road and I put the kayaks on the roof by tossing them up and sliding them across onto the rack. I accelerate at deer. It's freedom.

Oh, and instead of fixing the dents I used the check to pay it off so f**k it right in it's ugly dented ass.
