I made ours. This is an older pic, as I have since added a lower platform towards the bottom and some rope around the 1st foot or so for additional scratching.

What a cute little guy! Hope he brings them years of great memories and a sleepless night or two.

ahhh yes Russian Blues, I used to work at a shop in college that had a Russian Blue in the neighborhood that loved to come into the store and hang out. The owner liked him as well so he had full reign to wander the shop and hang out with us. Very social cats

Wife has had this guy for 18 years. He wandered onto their farm and they figured he was about a year old at the time. He spent most of his life on that farm, but for the past 5 years he’s been with us. He’s been deaf for the past 4 years, we had his teeth pulled 3 years ago and it’s been a constant struggle with his hyperactive thyroid...but a loosing battle with his kidneys and his declining mental state has forced us to face the sad reality that it’s time to say goodbye in the coming days.

It's always sad when that time comes. But our vet, who's a wonderful human being, gave me some comforting advice that sticks with me to this day. I share it with folks when they're faced with this decision.

"We don't prolong the life of an animal who's suffering for their sake. We do it for our own inability to let go. Ultimately that's a selfish act. Never, for one second, feel guilt for ending an animal's pain. Animals do not understand the quantity of life. They only understand the quality of life".

He also told me that nearly daily he hears people say, "I just don't have to heart to do it". He looks them in they eye and says, "but you have the heart to watch them suffer?"

He actually offers the service free of charge. He even lets the family decide many of the details.....like whether they want to be in the room, how many people they want with them. Some people like to do the final IV injection...he allows that. He also allows owners to stay with the animal when the procedure is done for as long as they want. He will even provide a box for you.

He's a good guy and completely understands the human aspect to this. But his priorities are always with the animal's comfort and well being first. I respect that.

I wish you guys peace with your decision

If you are handy you can cut a branch out of a tree and put some shelves on it like my dad and I did. Strip the bark with a pressure washer, wrap several places with sisal rope, and staple some cheap rugs to the shelves. My cat never climbs or claws anything but this. Don't have any current pics but here it is when I was stripping the bark off. Please ignore the ugly and rickety old deck. It has since been replaced.

Here's an updated pic of the tree. I extended the lower platform. They like to play on it at that level quite a bit. Also added the rope for some extra scratching surface. They love that.

And here we have the lovely Juno modeling the tree for us. And yes, that's a velcro monkey you see hanging on it. The girls love kicking the shit out of it. So my youngest daughter keeps it up there for them. :D
