Hey TW, just curious I just purchased a almost new 2019 Tacoma OR with 2.5k miles now it has about 3.9k and was just curious after I drove today during the evening I walked in front my the truck right after driving and smelled coolant is that something that’s normal? I plan on taking it to the dealer but just curious as to see if that’s something normal. To be honest I never really smelled it before this strong in any other vehicle.

Have you visually inspected the radiator and coolant lines?

Check under plastic engine cover. There were a few instances of coolant leaking in the valley.
    Probably nothing

Hello. I would do the under hood inspection then take it in to the dealer, it's under warranty. If the smell is that obvious, there's a leak somewhere. If there are several dealers in your area, do some research as to which one has the best levels of customer satisfaction. It can vary widely from dealer to dealer.
    Good luck!

I’ll have to check under there but I checked my coolant level this morning and reservoir and no coolant level has changed
It is still under warranty thanks I will make sure to try that out. It has to get its 5k service anyways so I’ll have them check it out

It's probably normal. All 3 of my 2nd gen Tacos were like this. The smell comes from the overflow bottle.

I work at a radiator shop and found that toyota pink coolant used on tacomas is water like and thin and the smell commonly comes from the overflow reservoir. As long as there is coolant in the reservoir and in the radiator and no visible leaks, no problem.

I've never noticed any coolant smell on mine. If you keep smelling it, I'd take it to the dealer and show a service advisor what you're smelling.

Ive noticed this with my 2018 OR. After it’s been run, but not every time, I can come back out to the garage it will smell like coolant. No leaks and no drop in level. I checked top to bottom and had a friend I trust do it as well. Not pink or white residue anywhere.

My wife's new Camry gives off the coolant smell, I've been inspecting it and came to the same conclusion - the smell comes from the overflow reservoir.

Have them check the rear bypass pipe on the rear of the motor. It's a common problem of the 3.5l. The pipe is made from plastic and the seam leaks where the plastic comes together to form the pipe.

I thought the overflow tanks were non venting, unless a little coolant was spilled around the filler neck topping it off

Maybe it was over filled and some coolant was spit out the over flow. maybe there is a leak. Be best to find out ASAP .

    No. It's a sealed system

    Right move.

Mine leaked a little from the overflow return hoses. There's also a small chance on the backside of the engine the rear bypass plastic piece is cracked. You'd see pink/white crust anywhere there's a leak. It's a warranty thing. Look under the hood and get familiar with the engine bay, it's a beautiful machine and you should know it intimately anyways. Take it to the dealer for any problem though.
