My brain is numb reading through the 192 pages of this thread.
I can say that I'm thoroughly impressed with the capability of the HPTuners system, the collaboration of everyone's thoughts, testing, and sharing of information, and most notably the contributions JustDSM, Nd4spdbh, and HPTuners have brought to the members/owners.

I started the read without knowing anything about HPTuners and overwhelmed (and intimidated) with the complexity of how one would even start tuning. I don't know much about tuning, so I still feel that way, but less overwhelmed and more curious about what else can be tinkered with and what other changes we can look forward to seeing.

As far as what's needed to get started for myself, I have a pretty good understanding.
I like that there was a dyno (Post 2638, thank you DiamondW) posted with before and after results for NA. While there wasn't much power gains to be had, this tune appears to address the driveability more than power, unless you have a supercharger. Which this thread has really got me looking into one now.

Coming from previously owning a 3rd Gen, the tune, shifting and feel of the 2nd Gen is miles ahead for driveability stock vs stock (auto trans). So for those thinking that the current driveability with the auto sucks, you'd be sorely disappointed with the 3rd Gen. And there's no helping the low end torque of the 3.5.

Moving along, I'm very interested in picking up the MPVI2 primarily for JustDSM's engine tunes and Nd4spdbh trans tunes. And it seems like JustDSM just returned to the scene from a hiatus. I'm not into tuning this system on my own and it seems like there's heavy reliance on JustDSM for the custom tunes in general. I may wait until he gets back into the groove of things before I commit since he appears to be the main tuner for us here (and I'm glad the forum community has him!).

If there's one suggestion I'd like to throw out is if the OP could include a brief update in the first post of this thread on how one can get started with this system and what options are available (tuning alone or finding a tuner) with recommendations. I've taken quite a few notes along the way, so I can help with some of the more helpful posts here.

Question- I'm about to do a data log. Must the truck be to full operating temp before I start? Or is it more helpful to see all the changes as it warms up. @JustDSM was going to help tune my new intake sometime and im getting data mainly for this.

In this case you'll want the truck at operating temp.

Can anyone tell me where on the screen to look for power enrichment when data logging? Couldn't find it.

It's not going to show you whether or not you're in PE. You can tell by knowing and observing your PE Engagement point and by looking at the Commanded EQ Ratio. A Commanded EQ of <14.7 is going to indicate PE is enabled.

@Musubi3 I feel your pain. Back in May I had to go through about 150pgs to catch up o_O
What if you post your notes, or start a shared Google Doc with your notes in it? To get the ball rolling.

    Questions for the thread though:
-is anyone buying a used ECU, flashing it with a tune, and keeping their stock ECU as a backup?
-if I did this, and then swapped my stock ECU back in for Warranty work, would it be detected that this was happening?

Yes, I have a spare ECU. Both are flashed. However, the dealer will not know it’s flashed unless you have physical signs (SAI removal for example).

You’ll need to resync the transponder ECU with the spare ECU at the time you install it in the truck otherwise it won’t start.

Takes nothing more than a paper clip and 30 min of your time to resync should you need too.
