This is not needed, the Joying uses the factory headphone jack right off the bat. He just needs to use the USB to toyota adapter. Joying should of included it in the box, but they forgot mine and someone else was missing theirs in the box too. Shoot them a email and they will mail you one.

So I have the jbl setup and my amp selection is on and I still do not have sound out of my rear speakers. Anything else you did to remedy?

Also did anyone find a way to change temperature from Celsius to Fahrenheit?

I pulled the rear storage box from under the seat to get a better idea of what to do under there.... ended up deciding against building a amp rack under there. Going to go back to mounting them to the back wall behind the drivers side. I will be loosing alot more usable storage by destroying that bin than I would by using the rear cubby. There is a ton of open space between the 2 panels behind the seat thats just open. Though when I took out the panel I found that much of it rattles like hell. The doors for it rattle, the clips that hold it down are trash and the box is pretty thin.

So, Im going to get some jack nuts and use those and foam tape to bolt the box down. Then more foam tape on the door lids to seal them down and keep them from rattling.

I have the JBL system and am looking at getting this head unit. Were you able to get it to work today? Also, for those that have this head unit. Are you able to use Google Assistant to make phone calls while not having Android Auto open? I use Amazon music for my streaming library and Android auto is still very clunky with it. I currently have an older Android head unit in my F250 and it will only allow me to make calls when hooked up and Android Auto on the screen.

I now have sound out of my rear speakers but I do not have the use of any fading with the rears. If I fade to the rear speakers I get no sound. Sound quality is ok but I don’t have the ability to go above the volume level of 36 (I believe) which is not that crazy loud. As far as google assistant I did just try to make a call for the first time and it said I can’t make calls yet. I don’t know if that’s something I didn’t set up yet or a feature that’s not available yet. I’ll keep messing with it and report back if I find a fix.

So I have been in talks with Joying on twitter to setup a guide for tacoma owners to install this headunit, I am going to be removing mine completely today, getting tons of pictures and reinstalling everything.

Please let me know if you have anything you think I should include in this guide. Hopefully if we make it good, they will release some canbus decoders for us so the few things that dont work will work.

In actual thread related news, I installed bolts to hold my under seat cubby in place along with foam tape around all the edges... nice and quiet and secure.

I installed one of these units yesterday, after finding this thread.

It fits well, and presents as excellent value for money. It may be easier to mount if it were a double din frame. There are limitations on the number of mounting points. It looks really clean, and far better than the alpine halo 9 I was considering. I am not clear as to how others utilized a metra harness to install this, as the metra dash kit I utilized does not fit, and pushes the unit too far out in the dash. I ended up using the stock bracket.

I set up my galaxy S9 to start a wireless hot spot when it connects to the bluetooth of this unit, utilizing Good Lock, and Routines, in the galaxy store. This setup appears to be working perfectly, though certainly isn't instantaneous. If I had an apple product, I'd likely utilize wireless car play. This unit does not support wireless android auto (though very few units out there do, and appear to be laden with bugs).

I further am utilizing a separate car launcher, as I find it to look cleaner (Car Launcher Pro). I have yet to actually be able to make said launcher default. Though perhaps I'm missing something.

The only thing I seem to have lost from my dash is turn by turn navigation, (which I was not utilizing anyway). Steering wheel controls function perfectly. System information is provided appropriately to the unit.

I would like to see a digital optical out on this system, but that's wishful thinking. [apparently it has one, I'll figure out how to use it]. It would negate the need to use subpar audio outputs, and instead utilize a dedicated processor. Though, with my current system, everything sounds really good, and far better than before with a bluetooth connection and speaker level outputs.

This is ultimately a huge step up from my prior Entune system. Google maps and spotify right on the dash. This unit is what I always wanted in a head unit, and was annoyed many of the traditional manufacturers didn't provide it, the alpine halo 9 was the next closest thing, and that doesn't look all that great in my opinion. I do feel like I brought my truck into the smartphone decade. Hopefully the unit has some longevity. XDA developer forums seem to really like these things

If anybody has the UI unlock codes, those would be useful.

To use the metra install kit you need to cut the mounts down to fit. Here is the procedure for that.

There is a option to "set home screen" I think its in the launchers settings tab.
Go into device settings, then set launcher there.

    Check this video out

There are a few mods available if you root it, check out joying extra tools. It will give you options to install modded radios and mod other stock programs.

Has anyone tried connecting an OBD2 Bluetooth to the head unit?

I am having issues with my Veepeak not connecting. I know it’s not theVeepeak as it will connect to my phone.

What is happening is that when I go to link, it does not prompt a pin code screen and fails to connect after a minute or so.

Are you using the built in torq app to connect?

I can try to swipe my neighbors obd reader this week and see if I can get it to connect.

No, trying to connect via the head unit Bluetooth first per all the YouTube vids on this.

The Bluetooth will find the Veepeak but when I go to link, the pin prompt screen doesn’t appear for me to input the Veepeak’s pin. I think this is where my problem lies.

Can you still use anytime front/rear camera systems on this? Sorry, I'm pretty ignorant to wiring and all.

Sorry im not sure one that as I dont have a anytime camera, but I would assume if they both go through the same wire into the entune radio that it should work.

Got part of my amp cover panel made, still need to make the cover over it all. I am thinking I am going to get metal mesh to cover it so it can breath, but still be protected.

I went and played with the older Android deck in my F250. If I use the Google App, not assistant or chrome I was able to make phone call via voice.

I had to ask the Google app to "make a phone call" it then had a screen come up asking to whom. To the right of that was a little 3 dot stacked button that I then selected the app that my headunit uses to make phone calls. On my head unit it's called "Bluetooth".

I then had download the Google "contacts" app and upload all of my phone contacts. It works great for making calls, but I can't text from it. If I use Android auto it calls and texts great with voice commands. Once I uploaded my contacts and used the Google app I could make calls great with voice activation.

I also read on Android head unit forums that the app "AI Caller" is a good one to use. However, I think due to my hardware it would not recognize my phone. This may be a good app to try on this headunit to see if you can make a call or text without Android auto being used.
