    I've parked beside them on the ramp...not a pretty airplane. But it's a beauty to watch fly. Love it

    Tree line at both ends of the field, he would pull up hard, bank hard and right back down into it. Landing gear had to be touching those corn tassels part of the time. It’s a real art and it takes skill!

    Buddy and I were talking about Aviation fighter jets and he was pushing hard that F15's are better than F14's.
    I questioned why and his main point is the number 15 is higher than 14.
    I laughed so hard and just cheers our beer together and continued on with other random guy talk.

    Tom just walked in the door from the awards party with four awards Dan, he got the Post WWII era Grand Champion we were all hoping for and a Golden Wrench award for Grand Champion, he also won the 2019 Airventure Phoenix award and a gold wrench for that one too!

    F-15 - first flight, 1972. Still in service. New variants, multiple versions, multi-national.

    F-14 - first flight, 1970. Not in service. Lots of moving parts, carrier duty was tough, gone but not forgotten.

    Given the current climate in the Middle East with the only other operator of the F-14, we may get a chance to find out for real...

    I watched a YouTube video by a former Top Gun instructor reviewing the trailer for the Maverick movie. He speculated that the F-14 they showed at the end was a teaser that the enemy in the movie would be Iran and that Maverick was going to end up in a dogfight with the plane he used to fly.

    The only hole in that plot is that there are pictures from filming the movie showing a Tomcat on deck and in the barricade aboard a US carrier. Couple that with the trailer where it looks like he's wearing some sort of special suit (that black ring collar thing)... I think Maverick is going to get shot down, finds a functional F-14 (gee, wonder where they were sneaking around?), steals it and makes it back to the carrier.
