Here's a list of people I also think are deserving of some vigilante prison justice, in alphabetical order by last name:

    Cosby, Bill
    Fogle, Jared
    Holmes, James
    Nassar, Larry
    Roof, Dylan
    Sandusky, Jerry
    Tsarnaev, Dzhokhar

I have ranted about my past experiences with police a lot here on TW, and I've been thinking about taking it in a different direction. Many jurisdictions train police and other first responders to look for signs that a person might have autism or some other issue, and deal with that person differently than they might deal with a typical Average Joe (or Jane).

This came about earlier this year when I made a comment on a Facebook post about a DUI checkpoint and someone responded to it (See next message)...

I was thinking that maybe I could speak to various law enforcement agencies about what to expect from people like myself who are on the autism spectrum, and how to deal with it?

    The tires are incorrect...

    Nexens on a Rolls?!?!

Also, don't be fooled by the price. Yes, a decent Rolls or Bentley from the 1970s, 1980s, or 1990s can be had for what seems like a cheap price. However, what many people fail to realize is that can be mended with a few hours of DIY work in your driveway on a Tacoma (or just about any "ordinary" vehicle) often requires expert repair and ALWAYS requires expensive replacement parts on a Rolls. Yes, many of the guys on TW could afford to buy an old Rolls outright, but what costs a few hundred bucks on Tacoma is guaranteed to cost a few thousand on one one these cars.

A brake overhaul can easily be $8,000 or more! Repairing the complex HVAC controls is around $1,600!

Also, good luck finding a mechanic with the skills to service a Rolls-Royce on any of the Hawaiian islands! About the only thing your typical mechanic can on a Rolls is recharge the air-conditioner, change the oil and other fluids, rotate the tires, etc...

FUN FACT: The chassis code for the Rolls-Royce Silver Spirit and Silver Spur, and their Bentley counterparts, is SZ. The Silver Spur is the long-wheelbase version of the Silver Spirit. The previous model was the SY. The SY was produced from 1966 until 1980, under the nameplates of Silver Shadow, Silver Shadow II, and Silver Wraith II. Bentley versions were known as the T-series. A convertible version called the Corniche was produced until 1995 (15 years after Shadow production ended), and the Bentley version was called Continental. The various Shadow and T-series cars were more "mass-produced" while the Corniche and Continental were coachbuilt.

My knowledge of Rolls-Royce is absolutely nothing compared to the guy I learned it all from. He lives overseas and is probably the foremost expert on postwar Rolls-Royce and Bentley automobiles in the world. Believe it or not, I met him on an exotic car photography forum called "Exotic Spotter"...

This is a great point for any LEO to review. I understand your needs for a more thoughtful experience with LE's when on any sort of stop. It's great that person asked you if they could use your statement in training because it does need to be addressed at a higher level. I will say the only reason he shined the light in your vehicle is to simply view your passenger seats to first and foremost confirm if you're the only one in the car. It's not that hes searching for something, hes simply making sure he's talking with all the occupants of the vehicle. On the other hand I fully understand this effects how you react to your surroundings. My brother has Aspergers as well as heavy OCD and tourettes, so I understand the issue of bright lights.
Here in Vegas with LVMPD, any sort of mental illness call (not saying you have one at all) or some sort of interaction with an autistic individual that the responding officer can't "handle" by himself persay, a CIT (Crisis Intervention Team) officer can respond to assist on the call if needed. It's always suggested to the other officers that they go through the CIT training to better themselves in interactions with individuals of any kind whether or not they will use it in their career, which statistically, they probably will at some point.

I don't really count my first traffic stop when talking about past encounters with police...

It was May 2006, I was 17 and still on my learner's permit, and my dad was giving me a driving lesson in his 1996 Nissan Pathfinder in the parking lot of a local hospital. The whole situation could have been avoided if hospital security just asked us what we were doing, but no...

Hospital security called the cops and I was intercepted as I pulled out of the parking lot. My dad and I were both utterly confused as to why I'd been pulled over. My dad was active-duty Navy at the time, and while he had a Pennsylvania driver's license, the Pathfinder was still registered in Virginia. FUN FACT: In Pennsylvania, along with just about every other U.S. state, it is perfectly legal for active-duty military (and in some states their spouses and children) to have their vehicles registered in another state, and have a driver's license in that state as well. The cop somehow failed to notice that the back window of my dad's Pathfinder was plastered with Navy stickers, there was a "FLY NAVY" license plate frame on the back, and a Department of Defense sticker in the front windshield (one of those "If it quacks like a duck, it's probably a duck" things). After coming to the obvious conclusion that he'd pulled over a teenager getting driving lessons from his dad and not a couple of domestic terrorists, I guess the cop figured he'd still try to act like the big man on campus and proceeded to lecture my dad about how he had to register his vehicle in Pennsylvania within thirty days of moving there. I thought my dad's veins were going to pop, but he kept his cool, took out his military ID, and calmly explained that he was well within his right to have his vehicle registered in Virginia. End of story. The cop let us go. However, my dad was so pissed that he ended the driving lesson and we went home. I still do hold that cop responsible for (A) ruining MY driving lesson, and (B) ruining our father/son time.

We owned three vehicles at the time (four if you count my dad's Harley). I forget where the Harley was registered in 2006, but by then both my dad's 1996 Nissan Pathfinder and my mom's 2004 Honda Odyssey were registered in Virginia. The Pathfinder had been registered in Virginia since 1998. He bought the Pathfinder new in Pennsylvania, right before we moved to California. The Pathy was registered in Pennsylvania for the entire time we lived in Cali, from 1996 to 1998; He registered it in Virginia when we moved to Virginia Beach in 1998. We moved to Washington (State, not DC) in 2000, and the Pathy remained registered in Virginia. We moved back to Virginia in the summer of 2002 (Northern Virginia this time) and stayed there until about July 2005, when we moved back to Pennsylvania. The 2004 Odyssey was purchased new in Virginia and the plates from the 2000 GMC Safari we traded for it were transferred. By 2006, the only vehicle my dad had that was registered in Pennsylvania was a 2003 Honda S2000 that he bought in Pennsylvania in September 2005.

My dad retired from the Navy in October 2007 if I remember correctly, and would have been well within his rights to keep the Pathfinder and the minivan registered in Virginia. This is a perfectly legal loophole that many active-duty service members use to avoid paying higher taxes and fees, and to avoid getting their vehicles inspected. In Pennsylvania, a cop isn't going to give a shit if a vehicle registered in Virginia is driving around with an expired Virginia inspection sticker. As long as the registration is valid, they could care less!

However, my dad is a lot like me in that he does not want the hassle of dealing with the police. Within weeks of my first traffic stop EVER (and his first in almost 20 years), my dad got both vehicles titled, registered, and inspected in PA for the sole purpose of blending in.

The incident that gave me an incredible disdain for police took place in March 2013. I was taking pictures in a residential part of Doylestown Borough, and unbeknownst to me there'd been four or five daylight home burglaries on the same street in just over a month. Doylestown is NOT a cheap area, this was hardly some low-income ghetto area, and the culprit was later determined to be a local heroin addict.

Anyway, I was stopped for the high crime of public photography. Apparently some old woman thought I was on her property taking pictures through her window (I don't trespass, so this is bullshit) and called the cops. I was walking back to my truck to head home when a police SUV pulled up curbside, and the sergeant got out and immediately asked for my ID. Four cops including the sergeant/patrol supervisor and a plainclothes detective showed up and interrogated me by the side of the road for like twenty minutes. They asked me all the usual bullshit like what I was doing, over and over again. The one question that really irked me was when they asked if I lived with my parents or by myself. They already had my driver's license, and the address on my license was up to date. I'd been living at that address for more than five years as of March 2013. Yes, I lived with my parents, but in my opinion it was none of their concern who I lived with and whose house it was. I answered the question without hesitation, but it still pissed me off. One of the cops also asked to see the pictures on my camera, which I did without hesitation, but again I was extremely pissed off at having to do this. I respect law enforcement, but I am one of those types who for example would not let a cop anywhere near his truck without a warrant. I only had pictures of trucks and old houses on my camera, so I had absolutely nothing to hide, and my parents said I did the right thing by cooperating, but seriously...

My honest-to-goodness attitude is this; If we start willingly showing police pictures on our cameras, then how far are we from becoming a modern day Nazi Germany?

I was never handcuffed or put in the back of a police car, and I was not searched or patted down; Not one of the four officers who responded touched me. I was let go without incident, but I walked back to my truck with feelings of trauma and humiliation that lasted almost three years...
