Damn. My math is all fucked up.

    $2,292.20 w/o locker, $4,088.64 with a Harrop.

Question about break in. I am about 160 miles into my break in. Everything that I read about the break in seem to indicate that the first 50 miles you should not drive longer than 15-20 without a cool down. I did that, no problem. Now, for the remaining miles until my 500 are up I obviously know that I need to take it easy, but is it OK to go on longer trips as long as I am not racing anywhere?

I was told the more cold/heat cycles the better. I ran the highways just like I normally do. Just not to tow or head out to Moab loaded down until after break-in. Don't want to overheat the gears and the coating on the new gears is designed to run hotter to help the gears heat cycle and will run hotter until that 1st oil change.

How much does a 5.29 regear normally cost? Been thinking that is my next purchase.

Depends if you want just gears or fully built members. Either way, the prices are listed on ECGS or Nitro’s sites for whatever you want.

Well I did do the REM polishing as well which is supposed to virtually eliminate the break in, but Im trying to treat them like they didnt have the coating just for extra measure.

You should do 3 heat cycles on both diffs. Basically 15-20 minutes runs followed by a 15-20 minute cooldown. After that take it easy for 500 miles and swap oil

That leads to another question I have had. Since the front R&P is actually spinning even when in 2wd, does it need to be broken in in 4wd for its own set of cycles? I have shot my diffs with an infrared and the front has not developed near the heat that the rear has so I wonder if it is getting the same benefit out of the initial 500 miles.

All my rigs are purpose built. From crawling to camping. I also enjoy a nice stock truck for what that’s worth. Toyota’s are the jam!
Let me know when you plan on breaking in the front for 500miles in 4wd, we can plan a trip together ;)

Hahah when I brought that up to ECGS they just said don’t worry it’ll break in naturally and change the oil at the next interval!

Wait... the front R&P spins without being in 4wd?

The front diff is not under load so it’s basically not contributing. Honestly I broke mine in on 105 from Denver to the springs. Just run some straight stretch of highway in 4wd and run your heat cycles.

    I have the 4.88’s. I run 32’s and OVtune

You definitely want 5.29’s with 35’s

All the time or at certain speeds? Gear whine is pretty normal.

    Not much stock left.
I wouldn’t worry about if it’s a low whine. Turn the radio up.
