High tech can be the worst nightmare with electrical issues, trust me my brother knows,
Had an immobilizer issue and truck would randomly just not start numerous times, Toyota could not fix the problem he spent the last $4000 replacing electrical parts from the main computer etc trying to fix it and ended up having to trade it off with 60,000 miles was a 2007 Tacoma

You don't have 'insecurities' by owning or dailying the first gen taco my friend. You're actually so secure of yourself and who you are and what you drive, that what the young kids in their 600-700 dollar a month payments in their newer tacos think of you doesn't matter at all. They actually look up to you and the OG first gen daddy of em all. Believe me.

this was easy to find lol

then I got to looking downstream, it goes through a number of hangars or clamps? that looks somewhat tricky to slip out and back in with the other tubes in there

if I don't have to go through the new fuel line replacement through all that I would much prefer it!
i have a shipment of naval jelly coming in, I wonder what might happen if I spread that on the flare nut and surrounding area with a Q-Tip to eat the weathering going on

"Now I wrap the fitting with that stretchy rubber tape that fuses to itself."

He's using silicone tape. No glue. Good to have a roll of F4 around for when you need it.

it'll just be a potential PITA to undo that tape (maybe?) when the filter needs changing again in 30k or 50k miles down the road lol
i was thinking of just smothering the anti-seize stuff annually, wiping the old stuff off and repeat process, its insane

It's not sticky tape it just fuses to itself when wrapped nice and snug. So it'll be easy to remove because it won't have residue attaching it to the line and nut. Could even do small amount of anti sieze on the hardware and then wrap with that self fusing tape but could be excessive. But excessive ensures you won't have a corrosion issue next time. I'll find a link of that tape real quick and post it here

The keywords to search would silicone fusing tape or similar. I'm not familiar with different brands of the stuff or if any are better than others.

i only have experience with electrical tape and its a pain to undo at first (easier if its all one piece wrapped around)

proudly made in USA, i like that!
chinese made electrical tape is garbage

Well this stuff will work nice for you then for wrapping that connection on the fuel filter/line. Most maintenance is usually just having the right tool for the job. Otherwise we get flustered and pissed and hate it and never want to do it again. But we have to, we have to keep becoming more and more and self dependent with these tacos, especially as they age. It's kind of the automotive end of where the old school stuff was transitioning to all that newer expensive technology

I used several rolls of F4 on the engine refresh project. I've actually used it to wrap the clamps on the small end of CV axles on lowered cars so that if the clamp comes in contact with the boot it will be less likely to damage it. Yep. Easier to remove than tape with glue.

If you haven't worked with silicone tape in the past, then make a couple of practice "stretch and wrap" runs to get the hang of it.

For the fitting, Kroil is your friend:

You can mix 50/50 trans fluid and acetone and it's pretty much the same thing.

What about a razor blade, that would take the tape right off.

well it certainly was no check up of any kind, could possibly attribute it to being nasty hot and humid out in the Mississippi river area, total soaked fest even in the shade with lots of water and beer drinking. Or it could be they have never seen an old 1st gen before (or its been so long ago) and have no idea what to do with it. One guy told me to check the cabin air filter and the fuel filter is probably within the fuel pump area. It did not inspire me with much confidence :pout: so here I am back on my little oasis island where I can seriously screw something up.
