I’ll reiterate, I had no issue with the original LF fluid in there, in nearly identical conditions, the previous winter.

Just kidding, thanks to your post/thread I'm going to order some Ravenol 75w for my upcoming fluid changes. I'm in the US so it's available.

my truck 2nd gen only takes 1.1 qts for the transfer case, most times I just use 1 quart call it good and you can reuse those gaskets on the T case they are reusable, so 1 qt of RAVENOL is probably all u need and Good To GO

no mines 75w90 GL5, the Diffs call for 75w85 GL5, what I do is buy 3 quarts REDLINE 75w85 for the rear diff it takes 3.2 quarts I just use whatever weight I have handy for the .20 in the rear aint much so im not worried or gonna buy another REDLINE 75w85 quart for $20 US. the transfer and front diff I use SUPERTECH walmart 75w90 gl5 since I don't really offroad and winters are mild not in 4WD a lot to justify buying high priced gear oils

Yeah that’s what I thought. The fancy fluid arrived first with the Tundras, then the 5G Runners, now the 3G Tacos

from what im reading started in some models 2014 Tundra and 4 runners I think, im kinda glad I have a older model truck that I don't have to get to fancy with the maintainence costs I can DIY , I have the old 4 speed auto real easy every 30k drain auto trans pan replace with 4 quarts T-IV that's it no fancy jumping wires or temps crap, same with the driveline, I may just use 75w90 gl5 for the whole thing next time forget the 75w85

I think at some time maybe 2014 they used USA made Borg Warner transfer cases instead of the AISIN Japanese made ones

I think it shifts better than the stock oil. Occasionally 4l will hang but it did that stock. I usually don't travel in area's even close to 0*f

I’ve been doing a lot of reading on this subject, here’s what I’ve discovered so far.

They changed from a VF2BM to VF2CM transfer case in 2016 Tacoma’s . Difference in BM and CM ?? both are electric engage and they’re both Aisin cases. Borg Warner U.S. has not supplied cases for Tacoma’s, Tundras only, per Borg Warner. Aisin Sieki and Aisin Warner( alliance with Borg Warner) are majority owned by Toyota and produce the Transmissions and Transfer cases used. So is there some BW design/function used?, most likely.
The LF75W is manufactured in Japan by Exxon for Toyota and is the recommended fluid for Tundra’s. I think they just blanketed others T-cases. In service manual for T-case assembly it says to coat parts in hypoid oil before assembling as well as using the 75w to fill with. So, is the LF 75w a hypoid oil?, why would you coats parts in a lube that’s not what it uses?
I have a ‘16 Trd OR for now I’m using the Toyota fluid until I figure out what it is, I know it’s loaded with additives.

Are the transfer cases made in USA or Japan? Aisin Warner? (IE and Borg Warner USA case with Aisin/Toyota internals?)

I’m not trying to refute your points, and I’m interested in any well-researched contribution to our knowledge base here. I just wanted to point out, you often coat parts in oils and greases that are not part of the final fill. This is true where you reassemble a manual transmission, or rebuild an engine. There are assemble greases, lubes, and oils, that coat various parts before the assemble goes back together to moderate the initial break-in, etc.

I see your point on the lube and assembly but, I was looking at it like not soaking bearings in motor oil or cam in grease. I generally use what oil/grease they operate with.
As for the transfer cases and parts, I’ve not made it that far yet. I know that Aisin, Aisin Seiki have all merged into Aisin Warner which seems to have some relationship with Borg warner whether it’s sharing design, parts, function or all the above I don’t know. They (AW) will not answer questions about their products, they refer to dealerships and they (dealerships) call it a Toyota transfer case and that’s it. I’m still digging and just recently started this journey. Could very well be like Exxon and Mobil gas, different names and prices but break it down and it’s the same. BW denied anything to do with Tacoma transfer cases. Also I’ve spoke to several dealerships local and out of state and none uses the LF 75w oil, which is what started this for me 70789D83-303F-47DA-B956-4B3D0D7475C5.jpg

Borg Warner’s reply about the oil and I can’t turn up anything on it. 3454C413-7217-481A-89A0-8D3EA08649A3.jpg

The transfer cases(the whole thing) looks to be made and assembled in Japan by Aisin, with who’s parts?, your guess is as good as mine at this point. I’ve even tried contacting Toyota assembly plant in Texas, that went nowhere fast.
