That is interesting. Historically, my past 4 builds follow a six-month enhancement-expense cycle that peaks at the midpoint and drops to zero and stays next to zero for over 5 years. Exclusion items are oil, batteries, tires, brakes, fuel, filters, fluids, windshield wipers, wax and bulbs. Whatever I buy and build has already bottomed out so there is little to no depreciation. The model only works with a vehicle cost that allows it to be insured with a liability-only insurance policy that costs under $30 per month.

At the end of the 5-year run, I can sell for more than the purchase price and recoup over half of the initial enhancement expense. I just past the highest point in Tacoma's spend cycle earlier this month. We had one occurrence with a Subaru when we finished the main part of the build after 3 months and decided to dump it taking a $400 loss. It was a car with some rust developing would not fit the maintenance expense model. I need to add up my receipts for the Tacoma. Though the important part is the project is on track for completion by mid-October and I don't see any expense spikes occurring for many years out.

If you're looking for accurate geographical information you should probably look elsewhere than a truck forum in the general discussion section. Just sayin'.

A few factors for the expense: my chart includes all expenses for maintaining the truck. The truck was maintained by a Toyota dealership until 2016, so I have paid over $17,000 in labor alone. I have also had a few high dollar tickets: engine overhaul/replacement in 2004, transmission overhaul in 2008, front end overhaul in 2016 and suspension overhaul in 2018.

Got it. I just finished the engine replacement and suspension expense in the first 6 months with me doing all of the work.

Too many trucks and mods to list.. check builds
i'd be scared to see mine... expense was low till 05.. whole lift kit wheels tires etc when my dad had it and replaced it as the daily with the corolla... then i get it.. put a little into it, then boom 2015. it would spike like crazy.

I can't even imagine paying dealer prices for those repairs. Insanity, IMO.

Insanity isn't the word I'd use. Maybe clueless or inexperienced or unwise would fit me better.
