Anyone else has this before? I’ve tried looking through forums and threads but nothing yet. Window will roll up and down, but just won’t go up all the way. Maybe a regulator?

Im not too familiar with the power window system, probably gonna call Toyota and ask when they open tomorrow. Appreciate any help on it.

Not on a taco, but I’ve seen issues on other cars where the glass gets misaligned (guessing the mounts got loose) and the glass runs into the door frame, rather than into its slot.

Yeah it sounds like I’ll probably end up taking the door part to look inside. I actually did hear a pop from that door earlier today and didn’t really think anything of it.

If the wind caught the door and blew it open hard there is a possibility that the door check has bent the window runner.

If so you will need a new window runner and a door check.

You might try spraying silicon lubricant in the window seal or check the motor/regulator...Remove the connector to the motor or an easier way pullthe connector off the switch and put pos and neg on 2 of the 4 contacts on the harness for the switch(might be the two outer pin/sockets if I remember) and apply 12v directly to it. I used a 12v battery and alligator clips. Try both ways of course, if it goes up or down the motor and regulator is good. I took the switch apart and I flipped and reprofiled the plastic arm inside it, it was worn on the front or back of it. Make sure the truck is not powered when doing this also. In my case it happened randomly to me but it was the switch on my second gen.

If you heard a pop noise prior to failure, look for a loose (maybe now missing) bolt on the door latch (rear) side window lift arm. I heard a pop noise when raising my passenger side window for a bit and this was what I did to repair. It is an easy job.

Take your door panel off (easy task - multiple videos available) and peel back the plastic water barrier sheet from the bottom left towards the top right about half way. Careful with the black sealant /goop. Maybe tape the loose flap to the window frame so it doesn’t get the goop everywhere.

Plug the power switches back in so you can move your window to test it later.

Look through the holes in the door frame to see the window lift arms (metal rods hinged like scissors). You will see a white plastic slide that runs in a grooves frame beneath the window glass. Make sure that plastic runner is seated properly in the groove. There should also be a bolt that attaches the metal scissor arm of the lift mechanism to that plastic runner. Make sure that bolt is snug. Check both arms. I also put a dap of synthetic grease in the runner to help smooth the sliding action.

I’ve heard of that bolt coming completely loose and falling into the door frame. This could jam your window.

Awesome thank you all for the tips! My window SOMEHOW went up after it made a loud pop noise like it broke free from something metal... I am still going to tear open the door and check all of the hardware in there cuz it didn’t sound good when it popped.

BUT!... the window works as if there was nothing wrong with it, I still think it could be loose hardware and could happen again! Weirdest things I’ve had happen with this truck lol

^^^ Definitely worth the effort to open it up and check out the lift arms and runners. It took me maybe 30 minutes.

Not to be an alarmist, but in my research I found posts regarding other Toyota vehicles that had this same “pop” as the window was raised (actually where I founds videos of how to fix). Eventually this lead to the window glass breaking. I’m guessing the lift arm slipped out of the frame and smacked the glass.

I’ve no idea if that could happen to a Tacoma, but a 30 minute fix was cheap insurance.

If you’re going to tear into the door, grab a set of upgraded speakers to throw in:boink:.

It’ll give you a reason to open up the other side to see if it’s ok:D
