looking to get back in a first gen double cab Tacoma. I took one for a test drive today. The frame seemed ok but everything else seemed rusty. Is it worth 8000 to buy just to fix up? Any one around Philly know a good shop I can take it to get looked at before I buy and to fix up if I do purchase?

Did you notice a damp odor in the cab, I suspect that truck has been submerged

When I see bolts rusted like that. I like to ask myself: "How fun would it be to remove those bolts?"

I suspect the owner knows the truck is about to need some serious attention in the next 12 months.

is $8k the going price these days for a condition this is in and relevant location?

is that white stuff a 'camera effect' or what is all that

I notice even newer Taco's have rusty looking undercarriages. I'd be curious why the frame doesn't look as rusty. Covered up? or did they have it rustproofed??

Body looks great from what I see.

The white stuff is oxidation from salt.

no, pass on this one. 8000 is not worth the hassle.

also, the white stuff is oxydised aluminum. The culprit is winter salt. If the aluminum is like that, what about the rest of the frame? it kind of looks like it was spray painted over...

Aluminum can "rust" too, but it gets white and it pits the aluminum until it has eaten through it, unlike steel rust that fall off in layers or chunks

That looks normal to me in this area for a vehicle not being driven with all the rain we have had.

Damp climate lots of rain living outside .

I can see buying a Tacoma as a project if your doing the work yourself to pay someone is so very expensive .

If you plan to spend another $ 4000.00 maybe more getting it up to speed after you purchase go for it .
